ATI Radeon or Voodoo4 4500?

I recently bought a TNT2 M64 that would freeze after running Windows for about ten minutes.. I took it back and used some of the money to buy a 3D Prophet II MX (GeForce2 MX) and it did the exact same thing (I'm thinking it might be a problem with the nVidia chips on my motherboard or something). I really can't dish out any more more, and since both the ATI Radeon and the Voodoo4 4500 are $149 at Fry's Electronics, I need to pick which one I want to get.. Which one performs better?

The Radeon will be faster. It also has better support for future games. Is this $149 Radeon the SDR or the DDR version?

I've been searching for a Fry's website for a long time now, and all that I've ever found were "Fry's Electronics sucks!" sites and stuff. I haven't had any problems with them, though.

I saw the add in the paper this morning but I had my mind set on the GeForce2 MX that I'm having compatibility problems with. I'm planning on taking it back and exchanging it for the ATI Radeon tomorrow.

Radeon DDR vs V4-4500?

The Radeon will humiliate the V4 in just about every possible way.

a lot of the time ATI rebates are on the boxes, though sometimes you can download them from their website in a pdf. Get the ATI i'd say.

thats a good price for a radeon, id go for that, why pay for a voodoo 4 thats basically a tnt2ultra?? also are you sure its a ddr? that sounds like it would be a price for a sdr. better be sure about that.

FYI mr golden member, ive had a tnt2ultra and a voodoo 4 and there is no difference between the two, in fact the tnt2ultra spanked the voodoo4 on a lot of my own personal testing. nuff said!!!!!

I just got it a few minutes ago. It's a DDR. Works really well.. It's froze in Quake3 a few times, though. The new drivers give me Windows protection errors, so.. I'm still using the reference drivers.

holy mother of God, you can get a Radeon for $149?

the 4500 isn't even in the same league as the Radeon. Get the Radeon.

In fact, get 2, just because.

Well, I got the Radeon, but I'm having problems with it. My system hangs when I try to play a game and the only drivers that'll work are the reference ones. All of the others give me Windows protection errors when Windows 98 tries to load.

i know what i am about to tell you may sound disheartening, but the best way to get rid of driver conflicts and the such is to do a complete reformat and reinstallation of windows. Nuke your harddrive and reinstall windows. Also make sure all your parts are connected real well and that there is good ventilation. Also, its a good idea to get a 300 watt powersupply since cards these days seem to use up so much power. use win 98 se also. hope this helps!!

since both the ATI Radeon and the Voodoo4 4500 are $149

They are both the same price??? Man, there is just no choice! The Radeon for sure. The V4 is just a slightly improved V3.

I reformatted Windows 98 SE three days ago when I first got my GeForce2 MX that didn't work. Do I really have to do this again?
