ATI Radeon lockup in Windows XP

I just bought a Radeon 9000 Pro (powered by, not ATI brand). The problem I am getting is random lockups. I can run my system for a random amount of time, but then it just locks up. No mouse/keyboard input, if I am playing audio that freezes and skips. I have tried everything suggested on the ATI page, including disabling various bios settings.

I am using the latest ATI drivers, the one that came with my Radeon worked ever worse, the screen would just go black, monitor light from green to orange like a few others have described on the forum.

My system:

Pentium III 750
ABIT BE6-II Motherboard (Intel 440BX Chipset)
SB Live X-Gamer 5.1
512MB RAM
Windows XP Pro

Thank you for any help you could provide.

I didn't buy my 8500 until 6 months after it was released, because of ATI's record of driver problems.

Have you tried Rage3d yet. You might find your problem listed there.

Good luck!

Yeah I've looked all over. This is the error log in windows XP:

// The driver for the display device got stuck in an infinite loop. This
// usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device
// driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your
// display device vendor for any driver updates.

I have done everything I can think of. Maybe its time to return it...

Don't return it...plz;)

Try these links!

This is a link to how to uninstall ATI drivers fully.

This is a link to how to install official ATI drivers on "Powered by" cards.

I would suggest fully removing your current drivers, then installing a fresh set!

The best of luck to you!

I tried it, no luck =(. I also tried unplugging some of my drives and pulling out my soundcard. I got a lockup running 3DMark2001 (the 2nd time through). I do a lot of work on my computer so I need it to be as stable as possible, and as much as I love ATI's price, performance and features I think I should just stick with my old Geforce DDR.

Thanks for the help everyone.
