ATI Radeon and XP issues..

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 pro 128m DDR video card and I have been using this card succesfully for the last 6 months running Windows 98 SE. I purchased XP Pro yesterday and installed. XP is updated now with all the lastest updates that I can find. I have tried repetedly to installed my Radeon card to no avail. I have download new drivers as well as older drivers to try to get it to install. When I do install it, the system reboots, Windows XP Splash screen appears, then disappears (normal boot process), then the desktop tries to load. Only, I never get to see the desktop. The monitor shuts off and with in a few seconds Windows shuts down and reboots. The next thing i get is the option to load Windows in either Safe Mode or Regular mode. If i choose regular mode, I get the same results as before... But i can load safe mode succesfully and remove the drivers for the video card. Then i can load back up in normal mode. As for resolution, it is defaulting to 800 x 600 and i never get a chance to change it because the driver never loads.

I am lucky enough to have a nVidia gefore 2 card handy. It has loaded fine with my system and is working properly. (Just a note, I never installed this card untill AFTER i had no luck installing my radeon. So there is no driver conflicts with nVidia and ATI drivers.)

Can anyone assist me with this issue???

Thanks a million in advance!!!

Nope, that I havent... I will give that a try and let you know how that works. Any other suggestions???

I would go with a fresh install of windows again. Just make sure you're installing everything in the correct order....which would be: mobo drivers, dx9, and then cat 4.2. Also, you might want to try redownloading the drivers again or something. It definitely is all software based, so starting from scratch is the way to go.

Driver Cleaner is worth trying, you should also (for WinXP SP1) run SP1 cab cleaner (found in tools section of Driver Cleaner).

Follow the instructions in the readme file and run it in safe mode like it states.

When in Safe Mode which drivers are you loading? XP's default or ATI's from a CD etc? Use XP's first then update to ATI's.

ATI's driver installs need to be followed to the letter, read the notes that accompany the drivers and ensure they are WHQL certified.
