Hi I am having problems with my setup using the radeon.
My setup consists of an Abit Kt7-Raid board, 2 30 Gig IBM GXPs..Duron 800...256 megs of Mushkin...SBLive Value...and 2940 SCSI Card.

I am wondering if people are experiencing a problem where when you play a DVD...it sort of stutters every few seconds...and sometimes with other discs it only plays until a certain chapter and then stops and goes to the beginning. I am wondering why this is happening since ATI is supposed to have a great DVD player. Anyhow, I havent tried any others, but if you can recommend a solution or another DVD player that would be compat with the Radeon..go ahead and shoot.

Thanks

Did you have this sort of behavior before you added the Radeon? I've had a few dvds have a case of the jitters but that happened to be Highlander and that just isn't a good dvd to begin with. I gives my other dvd player a hard time. Check of DMA.
What DVD drive are you using anyway?

!!!, shaolin, I could have written that myself. (minus the specs part :p)I have a radeon AIW, and also the stuttering in dvd play. There seems to be a lag in selecting on the menu's too. Which drivers are you using? Currently installed on mine are the 7041's. Everything works great, cept for the dvd! (7041's don't have tv-out either though :( ) I tried PowerDVD demo and I saw how the dvd is supposed to act! The menus are quick reacting and that stutter is gone. I'm wating for the new DVD player program ati is going to release soon. $50 is a lot right now for a alternative powerdvd-type program, especially when my card is supposed play them anyway!

im using 5.13.1.3100 drivers...i think they are the special purpose drivers. I heard they work well in win 2k and for the most part I havent had any problems with it.

Can someone tell me how to enable DMA in Win2k?

I'm running winME so I'm clueless about the win2000 drivers. I can't get my DMA to "appear" enabled either. I don't know if it's because the Pioneer DVD-106S doesn't support it, or if it's another software/hardware problem.
In bios it says it's enabled , but in windows the box won't stay checked, and when I ran the setup for powerdvd, it asked me if i wanted to enable DMA but then said it couldn't after i rebooted

How do I enable DMA for my hard drive/DVD-ROM drive under Windows 2000?
Recent hard disks, DVD ROM drives and CD ROM drives support DMA transfer, as a method of improving drive performance.

DMA transfer may be required in order to achieve the best results for capturing video, or playing DVD movies.

By default, this option is DISABLED in Windows 2000.

To enable DMA transfers, adjust the properties of the IDE Controller, in Device Manager.

Open DEVICE MANAGER.
Click on the plus (+) sign beside IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS.

Right click on the appropriate IDE channel (Primary or Secondary).
Select PROPERTIES from the pop-up menu.
Select the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab.
Set the "Transfer Mode" to "DMA if available". Device 0 is the MASTER device on the IDE channel in question. Device 1 is the SLAVE.

Click OK to accept the change.
Re-boot the system for the change to take effect.

Your SCSI card uses DMA by default. It's already enabled regardless what ATI's DVD tests say.

At least you got you DVD to work in W2K.

I am running an all scsi system with the AIW Radeon, and running a dvd locks my system up. I also tried PowereDVD, and it locked it up also.

Went back to Windows ME, and haven't had a problem since:frown:

I have the same problem with W2K and Radeon DVD player(5035 drivers) It plays great in W98SE and I have DMA enabled on IDE2 with my DVD and burner. I haven't updated any VIA drivers at all just installed W2K and my normal programs. What VIA drivers should I use?

make sure your via drivers are installed right and make sure dma is active.
The ati gart driver conflicts with the via drivers from via. Therefore you got to install the via and then install ati software and uninstall some portions of ati driver manually.

check www.windrivers.com
somewhere on the site, or maybe the message boards its available with complete instructions.

I have the same problem with my ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. DVD locks my system up in Win98SE and in Win2kPro. I tried PowerDVD and it works flawlessly. I've seen DVD playback before on another system with the ATI DVD working properly and I think Cyberlink's PowerDVD player is better. It even has built in support for the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro's & the Creative SoundBlaster Live Platinum's Live Drive Remote Control. I've heard WinDVD is good also. I say screw the ATI DVD player.
