Will the gaming performance be much different? I LOVE the video features of the AIW, but I'm guessing the 64MB VIVO has better gaming speed? Let's say 1024x768@32bit, is there much difference? Clock speed?

I'm not familiar with ATi's line so help an Anandtecher out. :D

Thanks guys.

with the 64Mb card you will only gain %7.4 over the AIW which is about 5 Frames per second.

If your able to differenciate between 80 and 85 FPS then go for it.

Wow. That's hardly any improvement there with the 64MB version. I think I will go with the AIW and give that a shot.

This is coming from the back of my mind, so I'm not sure if it's accurate or not.

Does the ATi DVD player support Dolby Digital? I normally use PowerDVD, so how would they compare? I heard that the ATi player is the only player that makes use of the awesome capabilities of DVD playback on the Radeon card. Will one program work better than another?

I have the SBLive! Platinum, if that makes any difference.

as far as i know, the problem with spdif out has not been solved =(

i use powerdvd instead of the ati player, it works fine. but it is true that only ati's modified cinemaster player can make use of the idct. with a powerful enough computer and quality software, it does not matter.

ati's player is not as feature rich as powerdvd. powerdvd can do slow mo, and stepped fast fowarding which ati's player cannot. but ati's player provides a means to rewind, which powerdvd does not...

there is a 64MB aiw radeon, but i don't know much about it.

with respect to gaming, the 64MB vivo beats the aiw at default clock since the aiw is clocked lower and has less ram. but the aiw overclocks well, just like the 32MB radeon.

There is not a 64MB AIW, but there is a 64MB Radeon. Maybe they are thinking about releasing an AIW Pro with higher clock and 64MB RAM?

I love my AIW Radeon and haven't even considered upgrading to something from Nvidia. The tuner and DVD capabilities are great, and the speed is fine for what I play for games (mainly Half-Life mods [Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat] with others like The Sims). Until I find a game that runs really poorly, I'm sitting on my AIW.

Wow, I hope I will enjoy mine as much as you guys are. How well do the programs run in Windows 2000? I know they've had massive updates and bug fixes for the ATi cards. Does the AIW software work ok?

I'll be ordering mine here in a few days. :D

NOT

>of the awesome capabilities of DVD playback on the Radeon card

If I'm not mistaken, and except for the Hollywood decoder, the Radeon is the only card that does Hardware DVD decoding.

>I know they've had massive updates and bug fixes for the ATi cards. Does the AIW software work ok?

LMAO that's an understatement. As for the software most of it works, there's still issues with vsync and VOD. and it's quite finiky not %100 but they have fixed the MAJOR issues.

What's the difference between AIW and Radeon VIVO anyways? It seems like AIW is targeted to the camera users and video capturers. If I were to use S-Video to capture, would the AIW do better than Radeon VIVO?

I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra cash for features I may not use and that I'll get less RAM and maybe less performance.

VIVO doesn't have the TV Tuner, and not as many input options. The gaming speed isn't too noticable, though some swear the 64 MB is "smoother".
