Has anyone else had issues with running doom 3 on the Radeon 9800 Pro? The game starts up fine but everytime I try to start a new game, the game exits and takes me back to the windows desktop. a damn shame I spent $30 on a game that doesn't even work. I can't even download updated drives because ATI's site doesn't even work.

I played all the way through Doom3 with my old 9800 Pro. I even used higher quality settings with no problem. This must be a configuration issue.

^I agree. I had the same problem trying to run in Ultra High...I could play the first level, but I could not load the next one at all.

nope not at all, in fact, on the doom 3 main menu screen, I checked the video options and saw that it was set to medium. But still whenever I try to start a game, the game just quits for no reason.

finally got doom 3 workign with new ati catylst 5.4 drivers. However now windows is giving me missing DLL errors on start up. mscoree.dll

I uninstalled Catlyst control center and that seemed to fixed the issue.

I'll try to sort that out later, but at least D3 is working.

Search for the "humus tweak" for Doom 3. Gives you about a 10% boost in Doom 3 on 9800 Pro's. From what I remember, Doom 3 has a table of values that it uses to look up results for certain effects rather than calculating the actual result. That works better on GeForce FX video cards than actually having the GPU do the math... but it seems the 9800 Pro GPU can do the math faster than it looks up the results in the table.

*EDIT* Actually nevermind... apparently the latest ATI drivers do the same thing.

Make sure you download the Doom 3 1.1 patch. I remember my Radeon 9700 had a lot of rendering isssues with the Doom 3 Demo when it was first released. ID actually released a demo patch for ATI users that fixed it.

My 9700 ran Doom 3 just fine at lower resolutions, but I decided to upgrade to a 800XL so I could run at higher resolution and detail.

Computing basics 101: never use CD drivers for anything. Go and get the latest Catalysts and patch Doom 3 to the latest version.

Sorry for intruding into your forum, WdnUlik2no. I am having problems with DOOM 3 and my Rosewill ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128 MB (see system specs on my signature). I have no problems with the game running, but somehow, I am seeing dotted squares (artifacts??) during the movie and game play. How should I tackle this? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Do the artifacts appear after you've played for a while? Any of the same symptoms in other games?

No, they appeared the very first time I played the game. Like I mentioned, it was evident in the movie at the beginning too. I own Thief: Deadly Shadows and I don't see any artifacts while playing that on the VGA card.

Apparently, you can fix this by installing MS .net 1.1, which is a requirement to run the CCC.
