ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (Connect3D) Texture Problems

Excited to have my new ATi Radeon 9800 Pro I've been game playing plenty the past week or so.

The only problem is that in GTA Vice City the textures and rendering are real screwed. A lot of the time objects are rendered with no texture and then texture is applied after a while of being around it, sometimes objects only appear when really close (i.e. the wall around Diaz's mansion only appears as I drive through the gate). This did not happen on my old GF4 MX440 🙁

Also in Half-Life 2 there seem to be occassional problems, but I don't think they are really serious like the ones I'm experiencing in Vice City.

I have the latest official ATi Catalyst Drivers installed. Any ideas what's going on people?

TIA for your help!

Don't just run the .exe, read the text file detailing its use and follow the steps it lists. Before you start, make sure to have the driver install package on your drive & ready to go.

I've now tried Driver Cleaner (ran Cab Cleaner before as well) as detailed in the readme like you said. Still really bad graphic glitches same as before.

Any more suggestions people?

Thanks,

That sucks, Vice City is one of my favorite games and I'd be pissed if I couldn't play it 🙁 I have a 9800pro as well, and I also upgraded from an nVidia card (ti4600) without an OS reinstall, just using Driver Cleaner. I don't experience what you're describing in Vice City (runs np for me), but I do get a few glitches in Call of Duty that I suspect an OS reinstall would probably cure, though I'm not quite that desperate to play it... which brings me to another suggestion - reinstalling windows. Back when ATi's drivers were pretty bad, a lot of people suggested this for switching between nVidias & ATis, though I haven't seen many suggesting it lately. It's a bit extreme, but should hopefully do the trick. Really depends how much work it would be for you and whether you're willing to do it - it's a pain in the ass, no doubt about that... Unless anyone else has a better suggestion, that's about the only other thing I can think of.

I can't say I really fancy a reinstall of Windows... goddammit! But if that's what it takes :-S

Thanks for your help so far Gurck - any more suggestions people?

Thanks,
