I am afraid that ATI has woken a sleeping giant. Enjoy your short victory ATI because defeat is immanent.

You jest, but before my Radeon 9100 I was using an ISA Trident 1 MB card with 16 colours at 800x600, in Windows XP. Seriously.

(Well at least for a few days after I fried my Radeon LE. :))

you people seeming disappointed by the R350 performance - the naming convention alone (R300 -> R350 ->R400) suggests the 9800 is "only" an improved R300 core (therefore R350) - we're NOT talking R400 here which will be (i assume) a "real" new GPU. People, noone expected the 8th wonder of the world with the R350 - but STILL i think it is more than impressing !

Re: NV35 talk...nice, nice. Just funny that these "rumours" all of a sudden appear when the R350 is introduced. The point is only that not even the NV30 is on the shelves.
We all know what happened with the NV30 - why should i believe that the NV35 would be the killer card ? The same rumours were going on with the NV30, and many people were expecting the killer card....but....as it turned out it was only hot air. At this point i would not even consider thinking about the NV35 until i have seen PROOF of it's alleged performance or a real card running somewhere and tested and benched. And....btw. i believe when the NV35 is out the R400 will be out too.

Look at the benches in anand's review, the game tests. The NV30 gets owned that much that it's not even funny. Yes, the R350 is not a R400, but you can turn and toss it like you want, there is nothing faster around at this time and (i assume) for a loooong time, too. The performance gap 5800 Ultra (!) <--> R350 is quite impressing !

huh? I'm expecting R400 at about the same time R300 was released. (end of August) Why would they delay it that much?

I'd expect R400 before the end of the year as well. Seeing as how very little was changed in the R350, there's a good chance quit a bit more development is concentrated on the R400. As for the NV35, i don't think anyone is expecting the "killer" card, at least performing better than the R350. I think performing around the same levels would be sufficient until we see what the NV40 turns out to be.
