Ati Radeon 9700 TX?

I just surfed on the Dell website looking for a computer (for a company that I work for), and found an option that stubled me!

Dell gfx cards.
And it is $180 cheaper than the 9700pro!

It also seems to have a 256bit memory bus, doesn't the 9700 only have a 128bit bus?

8 chips, 32bit each = 256.

Apparently the 9500 cards with 128MB of RAM end up having 8 chips, so they actually have a 256-bit RAM path, despite of what ATI says.

I have a feeling this 9700 TX may just be a 9500 with 128MB. The price is exactly on the money.

Edit: Dell has the VPU clocked at 263MHz for this card. That smells like a 9500 too.

this is a standard 9700, not a 9500 pro. the clock speeds are right on for standard 9700. anand's article on 9700 standard and 9500pro and the 256bit path indicates that it cannot be a 9500pro gpu.

The Radeon 9700 only differs from the Radeon 9700 Pro in clock speed; it runs at a 275MHz core clock with 270MHz <FONT color=navy>DDR</FONT> SDRAM (effectively 540MHz). The first thing you'll notice is that these are the same exact speeds as the Radeon 9500, but obviously with the architectural benefits (more pipes, 256-bit memory interface) of the Radeon 9700.

lastly: please understand that increasing the number of memory chips does not increase the width of the data path!! when you add a second stick of memory to your computer, does the data path suddenly double??? not unless you are using dual channel RAM. since ati decided to forgo ddr-ii and gddr3 specs for the current r300 boards, your theory cannot be right. if you dont believe go look it up somewhere else, or ask in the technical forum

Apparently ze germans at chip.de think that 9700TX is nothing but a 9700 clocked at 263 MHz instead of 275. Read google'd version here.

This is an awesome deal if it's true.
