Here's what I have.

Gforce 4ti 4600
Athlon 1800
512 DDr ram

I am thinking about upgrading my video to give me better play in Morrowind, which is play ok on my system, but could use some help. Would switching to a Radeon 9700 give me much real world boost or would it kinda be a waste since I have a ti4600 already?? I want to build a new system this fall when the 64bit Athlons come out, maybe I should just wait on a vid card till then, Thoughts??

dude, to give you a perspective, i just "upgraded" to a 4200. now people are upgrading 4600:(

where does the money come from??? are you people drug dealers?

on a serious note: use the money to upgrade your CPU. it is the bottleneck of your system. your 4600 is held back by a 1800, so a 9700 would definatly be held back. get 1 of those 100 dollar 2500 bartons off of new egg. it would be a better upgrade, then you can o/c to a 3000.

i would try to sell it

if you can get around 180-200 for it than you can go for a 9700 non pro for virtually free ($200 shipped)

Hey schad, I upgraded froma 4200 to a 9700NP :)
Money comes from me living with parents WHILE having a real job. $$$ to spare every month :D

EDIT:I'm only nearly 19, if you're wondering. saving said $$ for university. but hey, you can spend some of it on a vid card.

Yup, the cpu would give u more juice or that 4600 of yours.
Plus, performance increase when upgrading from 4600 to 9700 is about 1,1x. And to be honest, i wouldnt see a person upgrading from 4600 to 9700 as a "sane" one. Thats just ridicolous. The forums pressured u, i see? Heck, they did it to me too! everybody talks about upgrading their systems, and overclocking them. Wel, i was obsessed with o/c ing too, and almost killed my system
Your 4600 is gonna be FINE for at least a year. And then you might cinsider something else.
Wassup with this "cattle rule" here??! If a person gets a 9700, others get 9700, and then those who dont get 9700 feel left out?! Ridicolous!

ati  me ... sure of that :)

i always get my stuff from the FS/T forum tho ... sell of the old one, invest a few $$$s and always have the latest & greatest

9000p + $50 ---> 9500p + $65 ---> 9700p + $60 ---> 9800p

The hard part was stepping into the game thru buying the 9000p for $150 from CC ($100 after a $50 MIR, how young and foolish I was :D)

I second that....your CPU isn't that impressive but it isn't totally out of date.
