This is probably about a year ago I picked this card up. Well, it didn't work AT ALL. No nothing, just a blank screen. So I sent it to ATi under warranty, claiming with there is anything wrong with it they'll send me a new one. Oddly the 9500 Pro was on in the list in the form, just 9700 Pro.

Anyway, I get it back and they claim it is a good card. Having run it through their normal diagnostic tests. Well, it still doesn't work. Having used a S3 Virge card along with it to actually monitor what is happening I find Windows XP cannot even see it in there. the system is not detecting it at all.

BTW the motherboard in question is AsusTek model A7V8X, an Athlon board. Tech FAQs over at AsusTek claim there are compatibility problems with the 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro but from the looks of the model numbers they are P4 boards.

Anyone have any idea if I have a dead card or does it simply not work with this motherboard?

Until you try it on another motherboard you won't know. If you don't have another board to try it on. Take it to a computer shop and see if they'll try it in their's.

Not detecting it at all? You'd better make sure it's plugged in all the way (yes, they are unseated sometimes) and that your chipset's AGP drivers are loaded (from the motherboard CD).
