ATI Radeon 8500

It's interesting... I would have thought that with the apperant official release of the ATI Radeon 8500 there would have been some reviews by now with some benchmarks. I guess bad timing on the part of ATI to choose the same day as the realease of the AthlonXP... Still, just out of sheer curiosity, what an AthlonXP with ATI v. Geforce can do, would be an interesting comparison. Is anyone over at anadtech working on such a review?

Anandtech promised a review last week, but then promised one for sure early next week. Most sites still have only PREVIEWS, no final silicon/drivers reviews. Search here, someone posted a link to a German site with a final review..

Wait for a week or so, you'll get plenty of reviews then.

ANAND didn't PROMISE anything. he said he should be able to get one out early next week, but also mentioned that that could change easily.

The 8500 uses DirectX 8.1 and the only ones who have this are those who run XP (ie very few in number). When XP hits retail shelves on the 25th, MicroSoft will probably offer DX8.1 on their website and you will probably see and hear about this card a lot more then.

I'm trying to be patient as well and look forward to the reviews.

Kramer... LOL i think he has typed almost the same thing in 4 post about Direct X8.1 wat to get the point out! 😛

Kramer??!! Who's that? 🙂

I just don't want to start seeing crap like "the drivers are broken!". Let's see the tests and benchmarks with DX 8.1 - that's what I'm anxiously waiting for.

I doubt it will make a difference if you have DX 8.1 compared to DX8 or 7.

Just cause it's DX 8.1 compliant doesn't mean it will magically work better or faster with DX 8.1.

Well obviously when games that have DX 8.1 only features come out, there will be a difference, but historically DX versions have had zero performance impact on current games.

Yeah really, you would think they could just do a benchmark with Win2k and DX8 if they had too... Though since I think (anyway) that anand has already started doing official benchmarks with XP, why they heck not just do'm? It'd be nice too see them, I'm considering scraping and saving for a high end card, and with current pricing the Radon 8500 is kinda tempting... Probably even more so once I'm in a position to potentially buy one.
