ATI radeon 8500 question

Well ..before i go for radeon 8500 le i would like to know a few things from Ati radeon 8500/LE user..

1) What version driver should i use ? ( Ppl are esperience problem with catalyst 2.2 driver, like getting error in games .. no signal from monitor..etc)

2) What is thebest tweak software i need ? ( rage3d ? power strip ? )

Has anyone seen benches for 8500 with 7.74 version of drivers?
Inq had a story claiming 25% to 50% gains in OpenGL at 16x12.

I have not seen this confirmed anywhere. The evil website has a story comparing all catalyst drivers, but oddly only up to 7.72. It is even more strange if you consider that the story came out AFTER the 7.74 drivers were released.

please post any info, i am very intrigued by the new driver set

I use Catalyst 2.2...and there are stability problems with it:
1.) Random restarts...and winxp always blames Device Driver (Radeon 8500)
2.) system hangs...

I think these problems would disappear once XP-SP1 comes in (the Catalyst 2.2 drivers were designed for XP-SP1)

for now, I would stick with the .7072 Drivers...

I agree SatishM1801, I am using the 2.1 (.7072) drivers and haven't had any problems with stability on WinXP

I was running 2.2 catalyst and now running 2.1. both work fine but something causes my system to have artifacts in WC3 sometimes.

1) Catylyst 2.2 (Make sure that you uninstall any older drivers first and then install them)..no Problems here....right up there with GF4TI4200 and even beats it in some cases.

2) Rage 3d (havnt tried power strip)...

good luck....let us know how high you oc'ed it to and your 3dmark scores. mine is oc'ed to 300/300 here rock stable.

The Catalysts 2.2 work great for me, just some minor graphic issues in two games. I don't have any serious problems such as with stability.
