The Ti4600 is certainly a faster card, and the R8500 is in most respects a more well rounded card....but which has the best price/performance?
Almost certainly the R8500.
It offers a good portion of the performance of the GF4 Ti4600 at a significantly cheaper price.
An alternative may be the Ti4400/Ti4200 depending upon whether your looking for sheer speed, or your more enticed by the added features that the R8500 offers.
Better for the money??? The Radeon 8500, however, if you are purely looking at gaming performance, consider the GF4 Ti 4200. However, in certain aspects (2D Image Quality, among othert things) the R8500 is better.
I think the GF4 Ti4200/4400 are the best performance for the money. If I were to buy one now, I would go with the Ti4400 cause it will overclock in most cases to over the Ti4600, which is the best on the market at the moment, bar none. It's about the price of the 128meg Radeon 8500 now too.
if I were I'd buy something cheap (Radeon 8500LE 64MB for a little over $100) to tide me over until the next-gen video cards come out this fall and winter. If it's for the computer you have in your current specs, getting either card would yield very similar results since they would be CPU bound, I'd get a GF2 GTS-V if it's for your current setup.
I'm in love with my 128mb DDR Radeon 8500LE. I had no problems whatsoever pusing it up to 8500 speeds. LE is clocked at 250/250, while the 8500 is 275/275. I did a voltage mod and pushed it to 300/300 with no problems.
