ATI Radeon 7500 Driver Funny

I am working on a guy's system with an older Radeon 7500 video card. He is an old guy and doesn't know squat except to turn on the machine and play Flight Sim. He managed to remove the Radeon drivers I had installed a few months back. I can't even figure out how he was smart (dumb?) enough to do that. Anyway, when I found out he had done this I attempted to install the latest Radeon drivers from ATI (6.9 or whatever) and the install fails every time. It says something about a problem with the INF. I also tried a driver update to the unpacked folder that holds the drivers and it does not recognize them as matching the card. I also popped in a 7000 card with the same results. My next step is to try an older driver set which I will do after work today. However, does anyone know of anything in XPs registry that could possibly be causing this? If so even older drivers may not work. Thanks for any help.

Catalyst 6.5 is the last supported driver set for the 7500 series cards. Links to supported drivers are listed on the Catalyst 6.9 driver download page. (note: "Products suported")

ATI stopped supporting the Radeon 7000 series, 8000 series, and 9000, 9200, 9250 models starting from Catalyst 6.6. So I think that's probably the reason. You might want to try the Catalyst 6.5 instead.
