What is up with ATI Radeon + WindowsXP + Half-Life?

The game is completely unplayable. Framerates on my system are about 40-60 when looking at a wall in a small room, and 2-3 in a large room.. 1 in action. Whats going on?

My TNT\1 16meg from 1998 gets 10-15 FPS in action. Its not great, but at least its playable.

Im using the latest drivers from ATI's website.. Released just a few days ago, and still the same problem as the first drivers.

Anyone wanna buy an ATI Radeon 7500? :|

Couple of things. First, newer Ati drivers will attempt to implement Truform in all Halflife games. I believe that only the 8500 models can do this in hardware. The 7500's try to render Truform in software, which hurts framerates. Put 'Ati_Npatch 0' in your Halflife cfg. file. Second, make sure FSAA is disabled.

Thanks guys.. the ATI_Npatch "0" seems to have made a small difference.. but the game is still completely unplayable.. There is definate lag when looking around... almost like the game is pulling textures from system memory.. Which is very odd considering Half-Life fits very will into 16megs of video memory.. and this card has 64megs of DDR..

Any other solutions.. I can belive ATI wouldnt test this.. the most played Game in the world.. and they dont have proper support for it.. grrrr..

I want my nVidia back!!
