ATi Radeon 7200 or GeForce2 MX400?

Looking for a budget video card for a workstation, mostly for web, some graphics, not much gaming, and 2D quality must be superb. What do you recommend?

That rules out the MX400 right there.

Go for the 7200 all it is is an original Radeon DDR with a new name,it's faster & 2d's better than the MX400

That is only half true, when you install the new drivers for the Radeon DDR it says 7200, but if you purchase the Radeon 7200 it comes with 64MB of SDRam. Here its is straight from the ATI website ATI Radeon 7200 "64MB of powerful single data rate (SDR) memory".

Even with SDR it's still faster than a MX400 & the 2d's much better.

You were wrong about the 7200 being DDR and saying the MX is slower is not exactly true. Here is the link Tomshardware of the 32 MB versions.

The benchmarks show that the GeForce2 MX is still the performance leader at high color (16-bit). The Radeon 32 SDR flexes its muscles at 32-bit true color, where it is practically on par with the GeForce2 MX in many 3D applications.

Also the MX in that article could be faster since there were better drivers that came out from nVidia and Radeon's drivers are still not that great. Here is the link from Anandtech NVIDIA's Detonator 4 Drivers: Free Performance

He could probably get a older Radeon 64DDR for a good price & it would kill any MX400 .

Agreed. *ANY* Radeon (with the exception of the VE) will beat an MX card, even when using SDRAM. (Do MX owners need a reminding that their cards are using SDRAM as well?)
A 7200 SDR may not be running circles around it, but it'll almost certainly be the same speed or faster. Most times a fair bit faster.
And guaranteed awesome 2D quality, something nVidia cards still lack (luck of the draw.)
