Does anyone know if the PCI card is universally-keyed, because I'd like to use this in a Dell Poweredge 600SC, which can support 3.3v-keyed 5v cards.

If it's in terms of performance that you're asking, I think according to Tom's VGA Charts, it's roughly in line with a Geforce2 MX200 which is around the speed of a TNT2 Ultra. (this is in nvidia terms)

Toms VGA Charts (start of benchmarks)

If all you're looking is to put a picture onto the screen, or for generally regarded as good 2D, this works very well. BTW the Radeon 7000 is the Radeon VE minus the second VGA or DVI head on board.

i was thinking about this card all morning... after talking to many ati experts from various forums, they all recommand NOT TO GET IT. simply b/c it's just really slow, and not even worth it. but on the other hand, if this is the 7500 model, then it will be worth it. i got a gateway 6400 server which got no agp slot....

but i checked compusa (do a search radeon pci) and it will come up a $69 of compusa brand radeon 7500 64mb ddr pci... i will be waiting for that card to drop its price.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has an AGP slot and looking for a single card for gaming. For about the same $, you can pick up a Geforce 2 or 3 which makes this card look anemic or even an OEM ATI 7500.

Saying that, the real value here is the PCI version. If you want to drive a second display and your primary card doesn't support it, this is an excellent option. I use an 8500 AIW which is great for gaming and mulitimedia but it doesn't support a second monitor, only a TV. This PCI version is a great addition. It has excellent 2D quality with good driver support for the second monitor. The 64MB DDR is a bit of an overkill but doesn't hurt.

My wife's system uses a similar arrangement, ATI 8500LE for primary display and a 7000 PCI w/32MB SDR for the second. That card cost $30 and works very nice.

Although OT, if you haven't run a dual display system, you don't know what you are missing. Rather than buying one large display, go with a dual display of two smaller monitors. You get more screen real estate, flexibility and it cost less $.

Agree with Mac, the value is in the PCI ones. Although personally I've taken a liking to the original 32MB SDR PCI Radeons. Too bad they are hard to come by new but at less than $40 for them used they work very well.

It's the 7000, the same as the Radeon VE?

I'm pretty sure most are missing T&L.

Many new games are starting to require T&L cards.

It's good for the price range, but I'd look for a deal on a 7500 if you game at all.

Twomix,

The PCI version only has the DB15 connector. I believe the AGP has both the DB15 and S-Video out. Re the output quality, all cards are not the same for TV out. Typically, ATI has some of the best but can't comment on this particular card because I have the PCI.

NordicNINE

You are correct. The 7000 and 7000LE are the same except that the LE has two DB15 headers to support dual display.

I went, picked up the last one at west broad in Columbus, OH. Works pretty smooth, even when relying on the windows multiple monitor instead of the ATI VE card with hydravision I had before (couldn't do a good refresh rate with two monitors... never saw that mentioned in all the reviews about the card).

The 7000 definately does include T&L features on the card. What it's missing, is the advanced pixel/vertex shaders that are in the higher model-number cards. This is a DX7-level card.
