I recently bought the 6970 offering from MSI but my friend has been chiding me for days now saying I should have bought the 570.
Have I made a mistake or will I be fine. Gimme something to make my friend shut his pie hole..

The cards are very close in performance. If you game at 1920x1200 or lower you won't notice a difference. At higher resolutions the 6970 edges the 570 but not by a huge margin. Be happy with your purchase.

Just ignore him.. empty vessels make the most noise.

There is very minor difference between the two.

Unless you play games that are favoured by NV's architecture (Civ5, Lost Planet 2 or Crysis 2), I would say a 6970 is at least as good as the 570.

6970 is actually closer to the 580 - PureOverclock
TechReport also shows 6970 very close to the 580, beating the 570

You can see here at 1920x1200 4AA/16AF, the 570 and the 6970 are neck and neck.

On the positive side, HD6970 has MLAA, 2GBs of RAM and supports Eyefinity. But it lacks PhysX (if you care for that) and CUDA features.

You can't really lose with either card but if you are gaming above 1920x1200, I'd have to give the edge to the 6970 due to additional VRAM. At 8AA and higher resolutions, the 6970 has slight edge.

Hey thanks a lot guys ,that puts my mind at ease. I'm gonna rub it in his face with the benchmarking link busydude sent me..
Yeah I can do without CUDA.. though wud've liked to have PhysX.. Doesn't matter if I can game at 1920X1200 anyway..

Also don't forget that ATI/AMD cards are way more efficient at mining bitcoins. At current exchange rates, a 6970 would probably pay for itself in 5 weeks or so.

you can always get a cheap 8800GT, 9600GT or equivalent card to use as a physx card. a 9600GT is all you need for physx.

Don't mislead him by making it seem that you just have to plug the card into the system. Getting GPU PhysX to run in a hybrid environment is a major PIA thanks to Nvidia. Besides there are only a handful of games that even use this feature.
