I got an all time high score on my RadeonLE and PIII 800 machine, haven't put the new drivers on my Radeon 8500 1.4ghz athlon machine, I will tonight, and I'm gonna OC up the butt and shoot for 8500 3dmarks.

They *SUCK*, not even the drivers on ATI's site are bug free. ATI keep's trying to address issues with one game at a time, once they make a change, that very chage screw's up another game. ATI hasn't even come close to "puting their sh*t together". I got a 300 point jump in 3DMarkSE going from the listed 6015's to the 6052's on my 8500, and yet game performance droped considerably in MOHAA. There is texture flickering, along with a weird texture loading problem when turning corners in games that many people are starting to complain about. I just dont see how a company could make a card like this and not know how to make the damn thing work, its idiotic. My true feeling is the there is a defect in the hardware itself. ATI is focusing on frame rate and personaly it's really starting to piss me off.

Well SUCKS! seems a bit strong. I don't play a wide array of games so I'm sure I haven't run across some of the bugs others have but for what I use the card for it's been worth every penny I paid. I have little doubt that the difficulty ATI is having getting the stability/performance balance ironed out is due to some known hardware issues that they are forced to work around. It's pretty common for compromises to be made in the design for the sake of meeting deadlines. ATI had a great deal of pressure to get this card to market and I think under the circumstances it's a decent product.

Nvidia is in the drivers seat and they still put out products that are far from bug free and the Geforce 2/3 core has gone fundamentally unchanged for several product cycles. I think ATI has made great strides in hardware and driver development. How they proceed from here is the real test. R250/300 need to be better out of the box than the 8500 or they are going to lose alot of the momentum they've established with the 8500 line.

I think the latest leaked drivers were finally a glimpse at the 8500s potential. Here's hoping the potential is realized before I upgrade to a new card :)

They work pretty good on my new 128MB 8500. I haven't been able to test them too much. The Ati Island demos are fixed. The animated model reflections are shown. I haven't had time to see if the Empire Earth Smoothvision or the AvP2 texture corruption issues are fixed yet though.

I'm used to nVidia's drivers so I guess my standards could be a little high. The performance gain in the Nature scene was *AMAZING* on the 6052's, at some points I broke 60 fps. Here are my 3DMark scores with the 6015's and 6050's:

There are some awsome gains no doubt, but the beta's are very buggy, at least in MOHAA and RtCW for that matter. Either way the 8500 has a HUGE amount of pontential, my big worry is that ATI wont get it right with the 8500, and just say screw it and move on to something else.

every driver has been flawless for me. Never an RCTW problem, and MOHAA has major issues with many graphics cards, including nvidia, so don't blame ATI for obvious game design problems.

I'm not pointing fingers AAO. I have a GF2 Ultra and had a friends GF3 in my system a few days ago and did not see any texture problems of any sort on those two cards so I dont know where your getting this major issue info. from.

Try the "just released" RTCW 1.3 patch. :)

I got the new drivers installed last night.

I've only had my Radeon since Sunday but these new drivers seem to fix a couple problems I was having. Tried Serious Sam 2, Renegade and Medal of Honour with all options maxed out and all run flawlessly with these drivers. The even seem to resolve the problem I was having with corrupt fonts on the Windows XP start menu and on CoolMon.

<< Do you guys get messed up text when you take print screens and paste them into an image editor?

Here is an example
>>

That looks exactly like the problem I was having on my Windows XP start menu and when I used CoolMon- the text looked exactly like that.

I used the new drivers all night, last night and the problem didn't happen (or at least I don't think it did). Which drivers did you use when you took that??

Edit : Would you mind if I used that link and posted it at the Rage3d forums to see if anyone has had that problem and found a solution? (I didn't take a screenshot when I got the problem).

Yeah, go ahead..it happens with 6025, 6043, and now 6052 :(

Here's another if you need something smaller in resolution and size..I think i'm going to format and reinstall XP soon..i'll take a screen capture with Microsoft's drivers and see if it happens.

umm, wouldnt it be just a tad bit easier to simply uninstall the radeon drivers?

I personally love Redsoftware's X6 Drivers. They are based on the 6052's and include everything...Drivers, Radeonator 1.80, Rage 3D Tweak, Refersh Fixer .99... all in one handy package:)

I get weird text in CoolMon when capturing screens too. I'm at work now but you can see my desktop (310 KB). I'm not sure if it happened when taking the screenshot or in the conversion from BMP to JPG.

Radeon 8500, I don't remember which drivers I was using when taking those shots, 6025s I think.

Actually, I am going to format because I never formatted when I took out my Geforce 2 Ultra, and I'm sure I have nvidia stuff all over, along with other stuff that probably isn't helping.

The 6043 set is great IMHO, no problems whatsoever.

The guys are rage3d are saying that if you have no probs with the 6043 set, there is no real reason to change at this point. I'll put a word in for Omega's driver set as well. He puts good work out there. I'm not sure if he has a set based on the 52's though.

I only got the card on the weekend so I went straight from the retail drivers to the latest 6052 drivers.

Tates : 18Mb for the drivers! :Q I think I'll download them and give them a shot, if they fail I'll try the 6043 drivers out.

Cheers!

Yeah, appreantly there is not much of a difference between the two anyhow.

We all have to remember that no matter which we use, none are perfect. I'm sure I'll dig up a few issues with the 6043's. :)
