ATI R580

oh great, before they even paper launch the R520 theyre talking about doing a speed boost.

having read what is almost certainly a good educated guess at R520's specs, im going to say who the hell is gonna need or benefit from a speed boost of R520?

looks like paper launch is gone now, some ones jus gonna post on a forum saying its released and no one will ever see anything of it

Who is "they"? I dont see ATi saying anything. What I see see is a poorly made post saying that ATi will release a faster version of the R520 later this year. The same thing that has happened for years.. its not even newsworthy.

That was a really pointless article. Anyone could have written that, I think it's pretty obvious with this talk about GDDR4 that a later version of the r520 will be made.

"This gives some idea of what to expect in the future"

Umm yea, i think everyone would have expected that, i dont think we would have needed to be told that...

Let me give and idea of what to expect in the future.

In a couple of years, cards will support SM4.

Wow i think i can now start news reporting!

Why this become such a common thing to hear on this forum lately? If you're happy with your current card and don't plan on buying a next gen card, then why are you reading rumor mill data about the next generation? Is the sole reason for seeking this data out so you can then claim that its pointless?

Personally, I like my 6800GT and I think it was a good choice for me. That being said, I play a lot of HL2 DM at 1680x1050, and while the 6800GT can certainly play HL2 quite well, it still isn't as smooth at it could be. Whether or not I upgarde next gen is noit really a question... The bigger question for me is when I will upgrade... Do I upgrade early when prices are high and availability low or do I wait until things settle down?

I dont know if u read who he quoted but it wasnt to u...

And maybe he thought it was going to more informative than saying, "look were going to do a refresh of the next gen card" He was thinking it would have some specifications in it or some comments from ATi employees or something.

Tell me, how are we supposed to tell that from a title saying "ATI 580".
