According to ATi the official R420 slide presentation, the ATi R420 GPU overall performance truly is Radeon 9800 2 times! Simultaneously R420 uses the new overhead construction, 16 exaggerate the pipeline, the newest silicon system regulation manufacture technology, the high-frequency reveals saves the design and it will include 256MB to reveal saves.

That is what ATI was saying some time ago, 5 days and we will see for sure, besides, when our company saw that before it was asked, 2 times faster than which R9800? & at what?

at high resolutions where it isn't cpu bottlenecked..
I don't think 2x is enough ;) Some benches where there is no CPU bottleneck, the 6800U is 3x faster!(call of duty with AA/AF)

In certain demos this is true according to ATI.

I would wait and see how it looks across a broad spectrum of games. Chances are it isnt as fast as thr 6800 Ultra or ATI would not be bringing out the XT so soon after launch of the R420.

If thats true it may not have enough to best the 6800U, but in a very short time we shall all know. Even if its close to the 6800U, it is nice to see where we are headed with GPU's, unlike CPU's which seem to have reached a performance plateau.

The 6800U is twice as fast as the 9800XT, sometimes even more. So it could be the case that nVidia has the performance edge for this generation but we'll just have to wait and see.

In particular I want to see the new features the R420 brings to the table.

BFG10k: From what I've heard through the rumor mills around here, it doesn't seem like R420 will be packing any extra features onto the VPU, or at least, not as many as NV40 offers. ATI may have its work cut out for it this generation, unless its refresh products are utterly amazing.

We'll just have to wait and see. I've heard claims about improved AF and/or AA.

I continually wonder how AA can be improved. Make a straight line straighter?
Don't you think you can get rid of the jaggies more efficiently? That's what I would take from "improved AA"

I'd consider that more efficient AA. For me to call it improved, it'd have to boost IQ noticably. I don't think we can go but so much further with that one.

Yeah but since X800Pro competes against 6800non-ultra and X800xt competes against 6800Ultra, no sane person expects it to be faster.

Just curious, I have not seen benches suggesting the NV40 is has a 100% gain in framerates. Haven't looked that closely though, but seemed to be more like 20 - 70 %.

We will see. Hopefully ATI will stay competitive, that will hopefully force a price war.

So much for S3

losers.

To be honest, I feel that although ATI wont be able to win this round of graphics cards but Id be mightily impressed if it comes close to Nvidias offerings. Extensively modifying an existing piece of technology to produce such a gain (unproven to the public thus far) I would herald as an achievement.
