So apparently there is a very good deal for the 4870 at newegg, but one thing is lingering in my mind, PhysX.

I would love to make the jump to the 4870, but here is my question:

Can I use the 4870 in my primary slot, and run PhysX on my 8800GTS in my secondary slot?

Thanks for your help.

Not under Vista, only one WDDM driver is supported. It may be possible under XP, but XP wasn't known for playing well with 2 sets of drivers either.

Dang... Well that really sucks...

I wonder how Nvidia will bypass this limitation of Vista, or better yet, if they will.

They could always write a non-WDDM driver (read: non-video) that just enables CUDA functionality. I'm a bit surprised they haven't already done so for Tesla.

there has been some speculation that it IS possible thru the drivers using CUDA, and that Nvidia could offer it to get more widespread acceptance of PhysX; but that AMD may prefer not to use it in favor of developing for Havok instead.
