ATI Powerplay

I have a MR X1600 in my laptop, but battery life is pretty mediocre, especially when compared with running it on XP.

I can switch the power state of my GPU by typing in the terminal "aticonfig --set-powerstate=x", where x = 1, 2, or 3 (1 is the lowest).

Is there a way to get it to switch automatically when I unplug my laptop and then switch back to state 3 when I plug it back in?

I found a satisfactory work around by adding the command "aticonfig --set-powerstate 1" to my sessions startup settings. So when my laptop logs in, it just puts it into the lowest powerstate, which is fine, as I'm not using heavy 3d software anyway.

I'm probably going to look into OpenSuse 11.1 in December (since it will be out then and I'll have time due to Winter Break) to see if I can my laptop's battery life more in line with XP (and just because I want to try another distro and use the KDE 4.0 interface instead of just Gnome).
