So the story is, I notice that when I run around with my notebook on battery, it's fairly cool. Not much different than room temperature, in fact. But I notice that using it on AC, the laptop gets VERY hot, and it's quite anoying to type on. I'm not running any odd programs or services and so I finally realized it might have something to do with the video card. Low and behold, I checked it and under "Powerplay" AC was set to "optimal performance" and battery as set to "optimal battery life". So I just changed AC to "optimal performance" as well, and I've noticed that the laptop has cooled right down.
Now my question is: how will this effect gaming? Will the laptop know that its running a 3d application and increase things again? Or will this change make my gaming performance slow? Its really more of a paranoia question since I hardly ever game on this, and there was no reason for it to be on optimal performance just browsing the internet and torrenting.
Cliffs:
noticed laptop was hot on AC, but not on battery
changed powerplay settings for AC to "optimal battery" from "optimal performance"
laptop cooled down
wondering how, if at all, this will effect gaming performance.
