I m making a Linux only PC, I m using my old rig, & it will run Mandrake 10.1 only, no Windows & no gaming, for that I have other high end rig, I m making this for my brother who wants to use Linux only, & learn it, the specs of my old PC are

P4 1.6 GHz Willmate
Intel 845GBV motherboard
512 MB DDR266 RAM
Onboard Soundmax Audio & Intel Extreme graphics
40 GB HD
17" Samsung Syncmaster Monitor

well, everything else seems fine for Linux & Mandrake 10.1 which doesn't have really high system requirments, I now have to decide a Graphics card for this system, remember it will be linux only & no
gaming, so it has to work good in OpenGL, now the nvidia fx series is better in OpenGL but what about the drivers, cos since their is no gaming I will not be updating the card anytime soon, so Driver support & stability is the main consern, what should I get ATI or NVIDIA, Linux wise & driver wise Drivers are the main consern here, cos I will be going for a low end FX5200nU or Radeon 9600 non proAlso do I need a Radeon, keeping in mind linux doesn't support DirectX & NVIDIA performas better in openGL

ATi is increasing their support in linux but I don't know how good those drivers are. I know Nvidia had the lead a few months ago but I really don't know what's better now. I would go with Nvidia maybe.

Hands down.
With the proviso of: "If your hardware is supported" appended. Some stuff like TV out is not supported on all manufacturer's products.
That being said, I have an MSI FX5700 doing dual display, and it works fantastically.

Thnax U all for your help guys

I m going for a MSI FX5200 nU, with 128 MB RAM, I guess that should be enough for running a OpenGL only, 2D only world on Linux, with good drivers
