ATI or Nvidia for the buck

Curiouse. Whats funny is that fanboys will vote every poll for the same one. Closed minded freaks.

CAST YOUR VOTE NOW. This is not for shits and giggles, I would really like to see the results.

You need to add a $350-450 price range in between $280-$320 and top of the line. That's where the real performance battle is now... In case you haven't priced out cards lately, the absolute top of the line cards are selling for around double $320.

Wasn't easy, not counting SLI the first one is a tie, either card could be a clear winner depending on the games you play.

$280-$320 obviously nVidia's 6800

$150-250 if you have PCI-e then the 6600GT if not ATI wins with their 9800Pro options

$50-150 - well for quite a range (I'd rather there be $50-100 category because for $100-150 the 9700 wins hands down best bang for buck, otherwise the 4200 is probably still hot at $50-100, but then there is the 9600 as well...)

Crap. i forgot about the 9700. I was thinking "best budget card" which i always reply w/ the ti4200. So -1 nv, +1 ati for the last question.

Damn, I didn't know that it reset after each choice so.

Disregard ATI,ATI,ATI,XGI.

Instead this is what it should be.

Test one is pretty much a tie, depending on the games you play.
Nvidia.
Nvidia.
ATI.

$500 - ATI or Nvidia, dependent on the games you play. I would get Nvidia. not waiting for ATI's OGL support to kick in.
$400 - Nvidia
$300 - Nvidia
$200 - Nvidia
$100 - Nvidia

WOW, prices went up like a mofo, since when is the 9800 Pro 275 bucks. What a rip off.

If I would asked this question when the 5900 Ulra was the newest Nvidia card, I have a feeling that not many people would of voted for Nvidia. Its amazing to see how quick the war can turn, its been like this between ATI and Nvidia for a long time, oh and Intel and AMD as well. Loyalists go towards one always and realists prefer whats faster.

Fastest high-end: X800XT/PE, as I believe it wins most of the benchmarks at high res, AA+AF.

Fastest $280-320: This is a weird, hyper-specific price range. Given the next two questions, I would've expected $250-350 as the choice. I think the semi-regular $330 X800P is very tempting compared to a ~$275 6800, given the former's 256MB memory and much higher core speeds. But it's a relative toss-up. The 6800 is great for well under $300, and a X800P is tempting for well under $350. Obviously a 6800GT is preferable over a X800P if their prices are at all comparable. No vote for me b/c it's too specific a range (the 6800 is the only card in this price range). Barring the odd sale, a 6800 wins at $200-300, and a 6800GT wins at $300-400. Without a decent game bundle, though, I'm not sure how good a $250+ 6800 looks compared to a $200 6600GT. No vote from me.

Fastest $150-250: Way too big a spread here. This ranges from a used 9800P to a new 6600GT to a new 6800. I voted nV, as it gets the nod for new cards in this range (and basically owns the AGP market at this price range).

Fastest $50-150: ATi gets the nod for its used 9700s, 9700Ps, 9800s, and 9800Ps at $100-150. Below that, you're getting kind of slow for newer games. I'm upgrading from a 9100, and I'm not considering anything less than a 9700P (which is slow enough in some newer titles, compared to a 6600GT/X700XT).

Funny, I still see a build quality in ATi's cards that is lacking in the nVidia ones. For that reason, I would take the X800XT (built-by ATi) over the 6800U. I've never seen a 2D image on an nVidia card match that of an ATi card. People always debate the issue, but I have yet to see it for myself after over 10 years in dealing with computer hardware.

Hmm I went ATI, Nvidia, Nvidia, ATI (X800 PE, 6800GT, 6800, 9700Pro respectively). Crap...I can't believe my card is in the "budget category" now.

6800u
6800
6600GT
9800PRO

I'd like to know why folks are saying ATI for 150 to 250 range. Nvidia has almost 3 cards within this range. 6600, 6600GT and 6800nu is not quite there but in the 260 to 280 range. What does ATI have in this price range to compete with a 6600GT? The X700XT? Not fast enough.

50 to 150 is the 9800pro easily.

The reason I said 6800U for the top of the line card is, the benches can go either way, so whats left is the technology and features. Sure the Video processor is not functional, but this makes no difference to me. To you it might, but not I.

Ppl probably vote ATi for $200 simply b/c the 6600GT isn't yet available in AGP form. When it is, though, nV will own this area--at least, until the AGP X700XT appears (which won't be until 2005).
