If true and they get the same numbers of cards into the market as the 7800GTX 512 then I would say yes, this will match NVIDIA at the high-end or at least get much closer to make marketing look better for them, LOL.

Here comes Rollo, with an anti-ATI attack. They are desparate, they sound like dust busters already, they will melt, it won't be available blah blah blah.

Beat you to it didn't I, Rollo?

nts, looking at your sig, I see that you dislike the FX cards... Did you know that with the latest BF2 patch, they lowered all the auto settings for FX cards to "Low"? More confirmation the FX's were not good for DX.Here for link]

But on topic, this is good news, no matter how you look at it. Most people have reached 700Mhz core from what I have seen anyways. Some upwards of 725+. But getting those speeds, and a warranty is great news. ATi has always had a very strict hold on overclocking, they seem to be lifting that somewhat. Which is good, because these cards seem to reposnd well to overclocking.

Good news for enthusiasts who want a bit more performance but don't want to void their warranty to get it. It'll be interesting to see what the max clocks are and who offers it.

The X1800XT already hits some pretty high temps under load and idle. I wonder if they'll break 120C with this latest revision.

Were they not the first of ATi and nVidia to offer overclocking under warranty? (9800XT cards)
Obviously both ATi and nVidia have set clock speeds that cards are supposed to run at or around, but in terms of overclocking cards ATi IMO haven't been hugely strict when you consider they had overclocking in the XT cards.

What a comedian. Well, either you're trying to be funny or you're just stupid. So which is it?

Someone will probably release an X1800XT with higher clocks and better cooling. It's been done before ;) .

The mods haven't done anything to Rollo; they've already said that Video is sort of on its own.

Lets say that ATI X1800 XT-PE clocks in at 700/1800. That is a 12% gain for the GPU core and 6.67% gain for the memory over default clocks. If we assume a 12% gain in speed in real application performance, then in:

Battlefield2 - 1600x1200 4xAA
64.2 fps : X1800XT-PE
57.3 fps : X1800XT
66.2 fps : 7800GTX512
42.9 fps : 7800GTX

I chose the benchmark since the X1800XT beats the 7800GTX in this case, so I wanted to see if the XT-PE could beat the GTX512. Realistically, we all know that the XT-PE will not get a fps-for-clock gain. It is just a paper exercise. The GTX512 sports a 27.9% increase in core and 41.6% increase in memory, but only eeks out a real 50% gain in fps. :) Still, it shows that the X1800XT-PE may be competitive, if slightly slower than the GTX512. It will depend on price, availability, noise, etc. of both products.

Overclocked under warranty Nvidia cards go back at least as far as Geforce3 Golden Samples from Gainward. As for ATI's Overdrive, that really isn't much to talk about. I belive my 8900xt got a whole 12mhz on the core from it and my x800xt-pe gets a massive 7mhz.

This is just what I expected. Several people have OC'd their XTs to 700+ mhz on stock cooling, so this will a nice card as long as the price doesnt go above what the 512mb gtx sells for.

I know. I don't understand why these people behave this way. What's to be gained by endlessly arguing over idiotic minutia, and who has the biggest e-penis? There must be some kind of gratification that takes place or some transfer of energy, otherwise no one would do it. Other people do it with cars, houses, plasma screen TVs, and honor students; geeks do it with computer hardware.

Oh, I see. I guess Rollo can joke and have lighthearted threads but I can't make a joke out of my post. I like Rollo and was joking. If you can't distinguish a laughing emoticon from a serious tone than that is not my problem. Rollo, you have seen my posts before and though I don't like the continual company bashing by anyone I have never attacked you and never will do so. By the way, I own a BFG 7800GTX OC watercooled running at 521core and 1414memory and absolutely loooooooooove it.

So these cards are just an X1800XT with OCed clocks. 700/800(1600) sounds pretty impressive. Thats 11200 MT/MP /s and 51.2gb/s bandwidth. :Q

Hmm what next, a "OCed" 512mb GTX ultra extreme phantom edition?

Looks like good news for XT customers. Not good enough to make me sell my SLI, but it would be good enough to get me to consider their product if I were in the market.

No comment on the childish flaming by some, I'll let our posts show who we are and what we're about. ;)

I sure hope you weren't referring to my post because I was joking. If you took offense then I apologize but if my joke at the beginning of the thread with the laughing emoticon is considered flaming then some of the posts in this and other threads are nuclear reactors.

We can't throw the perverbial good humored jab out with the troll water. Look at who's posting and what they are saying before making generalizations.
