ATI-OEM (Sapphire) 9000 - DVI doesn't work - tried 2 different cards so far

Bought this to replace a working retail 8500. Monitor is a Dell 1900FP. DVI on the 8500 works fine. Swap in the Radeon 9000 and the DVI out doesn't work. Black screen, no signal to monitor even during POST. Tried this card in my other rig, same thing. Dead. VGA out on this card works fine. RMA'd it and the replacement card does the same thing. No DVI output at all.

So, 2 different cards, 2 different computers, no DVI-out at all. There is no documentation with this card (Sapphire OEM) or on the website. Does something need to be "enabled"? I've never had any trouble like this with several other DVI cards that I've used.

Please help, I need a (relatively) high performance 3D card with DVI and NO fan. Any other card suggestions, if I can't get this to function?

no DVI on my powercolor 7500 PCI either. However, if I use DVI-VGA connector, I get signal. I know the adapter only forwards the analog signal from DVI-I port to the VGA port of monitor, so still, the DVI digital part of the video card (DVI-D part) does not work.

I have a saphirre 9000 with dvi and currently using a dell lcd monitor.
DVI works I was initially confused when I got no monitor output when using the dvi but got vga output.

The answer for me is that dell monitor has a feature that you can use 2 computers using the vga input for one and using the dvi input for the other. you have to switch the source from the monitor to the dvi input for the monitor to see the dvi input.

I have a laptop connected to the vga and another computer with the radeon 9000 connected via the dvi.
I switch between the two of them all the time.

Look in the monitor manual.

2 cards with no working dvi is kind of rare

good luck

My monitor is currently working fine with my 8500 using the DVI-out. All I'm doing is swapping in the 9000 and trying to use the DVI-out on it and it is completely dead, monitor won't even start up, screen is dead throughout the post and (I assume since I can't see anything)all the way into Windows. I can't do anything with drivers (and I don't think it's a driver issue anyway, you don't need any special drivers to go into the BIOS or POST, any third-party driver loads after this) because I can't even see the screen.

Same situation happens when I put this card into my other computer. Completely dead.

I think it must be something else on the card, like some jumper... It's too odd. I thought I was the only one had bad luck with DVI.

My wife has a Sapphire 9000 using the DVI for her Viewsonic VG151b. No problems at all.

There is only one jumper and it's labeled "PAL/NTSC". Must be for the TV out part of the card. I moved it and it made no difference.

I've had good luck with all my other DVI cards so far. This is the first one that hasn't worked for me.

i've got a powercolor 7500 (RV2LE) hooked up to two Samsung 955df's... (one on VGA and one on a DVI-VGA adap.)... any monitor connected to the DVI port on the card is blurry (or ghosty, depending on how you want to describe it). i tried emailing Powercolor's tech support, but i keep getting broken-english replies advising me to lower my refresh rate to 60Hz (tried that, no change).

does the DVI port on this card just suck?

Hey, you aren't supposed to hijack other people's threads with your own problems ...

But anyway, I happen to know because I've been having the same problem with that same card, and got a GOOD answer from PowerColor.
Apparently the first batch of the RV2LE had wrong filter components on. The fix is to remove some components ...

> > For end-users, please use soldering iron to take off C14, C21, C26, C98,
> > C107, C114.

You might want to find someone with soldering practice and a steady hand to remove those teensy capacitors ... and you also want to be absolutely sure you remove the right ones. Everything's silkscreened onto the card, but do take your time to figure it out. They're all near the connectors.

Try contacting "Tomas" <tomas@powercolor.com.tw>, he's the helpful person there. They have closeup pictures showing where those capacitors are.

I did that to mine, picture's fine now. You aren't using DVI btw, you're just using the analog VGA signal presented on the DVI connector.

The ultimate fix would have been what PowerColor themselves have done in mass production:

>We have changed C14,C21,C26,C98,C107,C114 to M/C 33PF/50V, and R43,R48,R58
>to R/C 5.1OHM.

but I didn't bother do that.

regards, Peter

sorry, i didn't mean to hijack anyone's anything. i just noticed that someone was having problems w/ an ATI-based card and the DVI port on that card...

anyway, thanks for the lead. i think i'll skip the soldering modifications... my card is labeled RV2LE-B3. i may just send it back to Newegg in hopes of getting a 'new' and 'fixed' version.

The B3 suffix just means you have 64 MBytes of RAM and three output connectors. This is the same card I have.

Sadly, PowerColor didn't mark the change as a new revision of the card. So when you take yours back, bring a magnifying glass to inspect the resistors and capacitors for the correct ohms and farads :)
