ATI & NVIDIA-based Graphics Cards Will Have an Bug in Half-Life 2? **Updated 7/23**

oooh.... now both manufaturers have problems running games.... 🙁

I have a 9500NP, and I cannot play morrowind with cat 3.6s (cat 3.0s work though) 🙁

I was thinking about getting a Nvidia card, but this blows it I guess... 🙁

Weird,I can play Morrowind fine with CATs 3.6 and my Sapphire 9700NP,try Driver Cleaner 1.9.

Like I said in another similar post....

Maybe now the zealots will quiet down and realize neither company nor their products are perfect.

.... Naaaaaahhhh.... won't happen. 😛

Holy freakin crap.... This is awful. I'm so glad I didn't order my 5900 yet... Hopefully Nvidia will release a new card before HL2 is out... otherwise there will be nothing for any of us to play HL2 with! Seriously, this is terrible, I'm in disbelief. I hope they come out with a new card in time....

ill just play it with my 4200 and use it till the value version of nv40 or the value of nv50 comes out. i dont use FSAA anyways

Gimme a break! It's a SHOOTER! Who cares about FSAA? The REAL FPS fraggots could give a rat's anus less whether or not the edges have jaggies! Unless you just like to walk around and look at stuff and take screen shots! (and get killed in the process)

Of course, you KNOW whose fault this is gonna be so no use even going there!

WTH dude? The whole point in buying a high-end $500 card like an FX 5900 or 9800 Pro is TO USE FSAA and Aniso. People sure aren't buying them to get extreme frame rates. Not to use it is a waste of your money and hardware.

Buying vid cards for extremely high frame rates went out the window when the 9700 Pro came out. Now image quality is more important.

I know that I use FSAA on EVERY game that I play including BF1942/Desert Combat. I can't bare to look at jaggies anymore on ANY game.

Well I'm not convinced because I absolutely cannot play TW2003 with FSAA (beyond 2X which is pointless) and ANSIO enabled. I have tried both 5900U and R9800 Pro cards. I also have top of the line (and then some) hardware. Sure, blame the game. However, the game plays fine with those features off. HL2 hasn't even been released yet. Did you see the videos? That game was running like crap on that system with the 9700 pro. By this fall even the 5900U and 9800's will be rusting relics...

Naw kidding. It's an unoptimised demo on an incomplete engine, of course it ran like crap. Remmeber the UT2003 Alpha builds? Yeah.

There are a lot of people reporting these problems, and the only fix I have seen so far is going back to the old drivers.... But some people have never had the problem at all. BTW, I did dnld DriverCleaner from Rage3D. Didnt help...

If one asked me (no one did, but I'll volunteer my opinion anyhow 😉) it's a waste of money to buy a high end $500.00 video card anyhow. Unless it's a workstation card or something for work. $500.00 to play a game (even several) is not how I'd spend $500.00.

Perhaps I am some kind of freak, but image quality has always been more important to me. A million fps means nothing if the game looks like crap. Of course, I am also of the opinion that a million fps means nothing at all. If the game is smooth at 60 fps who gives a d@mn if you can run your game at 200 fps.

I also tend to agree with the above posters and think it is premature to make any kind of real guess what the game will run on and how. The game isn't ready yet.

I'll have to agree with NFS4 on buying a high end video card to use AA and not just frames. I ended up getting the 9700 Pro for that myself. I even flipped back to with no AA for a brief moment and I couldn't stand looking at the jaggies myself.

But the one question is to wait and see is if HL2, when released, will slaughter systems with AA at... say 6x. If none of these top end video cards can't handle AA with 1024x768 (what I run at...), just to get playable frame rates, then the bug might not be as big as of an issue.

Time will tell for sure.

Uh guys, its a problem in DX 9 (same sort of problem that is in Splinter Cell, I'll bet)... no need to bash either companies. They will have to do a hackjob of some sort to get it working on the Radeons.....

Yep, they will, but according to Valve there is no hackjob that can be done on the GeForces.

Nice nforce 2 your running there dipsh*t.

BWAHAHAHA. Nice one... I bet that guy is embarrassed as crap right now...

Also, who is Valve to say whether or not Nvidia can fix their products?
