I swear, if the Inquirer uses the fictional word "marchitecture" one more time, I'm going over there and shoving a dictionary down their throats.

Hmm if R580+ is going to be released in the summer that means no R600 until at least Christmas. Guess I'll hold on to this X1900 XTX till 2007.

If R600 is DX10 they probably see it fit not to release them until Vista is close. Maybe beeing able to move to a smaller die size or add small improvements.

But if they are going to release 80nm R580 they'll probably name them X1950XT or something.

I hope it uses GDDR4 Ram. Since it just is now into mass production.

So ATI will relase refresh of a refresh.

I called it before Inq did. My next prediction This card will be $599-$500

2) High power consumption under full load.

Same here!!

X1900XT works fine on a half-way decent FSP 450W PSU- $49.99

Shhh ;)

i think he means the few cents extra the card is going to cost him to run...wait, that's a stupid point as well ;)

P.S. If one idiot computes the price difference at max load for a year i'll punch him through my computer screen :p

Well some people just want to save that few extra dollars and most of the people I know who have lots of money tend to save every penny, turn off the lights when they leave, drive an extra 5 miles to save 3 cents on a gallon/litre of gas and calculate the exact cost of their computer power useage just to piss off you my Aussie friend. ;)

It is NOT going up against the G80, that would be a fatal move for ATI. From what I have read, the R600 will be out around christmas time.

Well, now that the g80 is most likely not coming out until late 2006, that's obvious. Until a few days ago the g80 was rumored to be released this summer.

FWIW i would rather the card companies take more time in refining the cards for better power consumption and quietness off that bat instead of releasing cards in between the cycles.

This will never happen because cool and quiet doesn't get your card to the top of the ORB. Having the performance crown has a trickle down effect on sales. It's kind of like the old car racing adage: winning races on Sunday sells cars on Monday.

Yup. Just wait for a bunch of n00bs to start asking whats better: a 6800gt or a 7300gs.

Energy prices in North America are probably higher than where you're from. So just don't be naive like this next time. :)

I don't buy high-end cards to get on the ORB, I use them to play video games. :)

That adage is so woefully wrong, as most car manufacturers are losing money these days.

That's very interesting... You still won't see chipmakers sarifice performance for a reduction in heat/noise/power consumption...

I rest my case

Electricity provider prices are going up ~70% this year, but beside that, my main concern is noise, not power consumption.
