I just don't see the point. Any ATI user that goes this route is shooting themself in the foot at this point. ATI is already behind still using shaders 3.0, using 2 cards isn't going to overcome this. The x850 line already plays ever new game right now perfectly fine, best performing card out there is the x850XT PE. But down the road you don't want to pop another one in there, you want to switch out for the newer card with newer tech.

According to the info at hand you will be able to drop in a newer card and still use your X850XT PE as the slave card. Kinda like using a X800XT PE and 9800XT together (I guess)

What a horrible, biased, preview. I mean, could they at least take it with a grain of salt and not rehash the press release and makes estimates of how awesome this technology will be, espcially as they have no working samples? It isn't like ATI has paper launched products before months before they were really available... ;) Sheesh. And the idea that ATI will bring the X850XT down in price is pretty ridiculous too, IMHO. The 9800XT never came down, it just went away. Why would this be any different?

agreed...totally biased review!!! what they think the r520 will go against the 6800U SLI?? they totally forgot that nvidia also makes next gen cards!!
ya true...i really doubt that the x850xtpe would really come down much in price...maybe by 100 max. ppl wouldnt buy it anymore anymore once the newer generation cards are out.
another flaw is that by putting an r520 with r420 u are actually making the r520 work at the speeds of the r420 which renders the extra speed useless. i doubt u can put in two different generation cards in that rig, but different models of the same gen might be possible!! not sure though
