I plan to get my laptop back after some problems. It has a ATI mobility 9000 module and the official driver set from ECS is one year outdated. Have you tried using third party drivers (ie. omega) and did they work properly? Did the lcd turn off when you close it and did the monitor brightness and on/off buttons still work? Thanks for your help.

I see your twice-brokened laptop has been fixed :D. Good for you.

I use the latest Omegas, they work fine. The LCD turns off when I close the screen, and it comes back on when I open it again.
Yes, the monitor brightness and on/off buttons still work perfectly.

I technically use third part drivers with my M9. I download the ATi drivers and use a modifying tool to make them mobile compatible. LCD turns on and off just like it should and all the display specific keys work just like they did with the Dell specific drivers.

That's what I do. Search over at Rage3D for MobileMod. I'm using either the 4.2 or 4.3 Catalysts on my Mobility 9600.
