The developer of Half-Life 2, Valve, is the first developer to voice their displeasure for the NV3x architecture with such intensity, because it has forced them to write additional codepaths particularly for NVIDIA hardware; thus, costing them time, money, and extra resources. This was something not needed to run on ATI hardware, which is why they entered into an agreement with ATI. The order of the agreement was based on already existing hardware benchmark scores to a marketing agreement, not the other way around as some have speculated.
For the conspiracy theorists.

Another carrot:

Hopefully, we will see the next generation of mobile graphics processors (M11 and NV36) with an announcement much closer to their full market release. (Of the two, we have only been able to see M11, which is definitely something to keep your eyes peeled for as we near official announcement.)

Also of note:

While we can?t release full results, we can state that in our Half-Life 2 benchmark runs, the Mobility Radeon 9600 was able to noticeably generate less heat.

Not that I'm in the market for a laptop or anything, but WOW. ATi just completely dominated those particular benchmarks. Getting over 100% and I think I saw >200% performance lead. All this while generating less heat. I guess this is why ATi is the leader in mobile graphics.

Yea because no one else wants its arse. I think alienwares laptops exclusive feature of the nvidia fx chip is gonna hurt sales.

It's too bad, because the 5650 Go is very playable and comparable to the M10 in anything that's not a DX9 title. It's almost horrific to see 5650 Go numbers like this with the latest and greatest soon-to-be-available games. I can definitely see a surge in M10 orders from OEMs. Too bad my Dell 600m uses just a measly 9000. :)

so this M11, is it based off of the new 9900 (or 9800XT) or whatever design?

The only way for NVIDIA hardware to run reasonably in full DX9 games, such as HL2, AquaMark 3 and others, is for high quality settings to be dropped: no fog, 32-bit dropped to 16-bit, low dynamic range, etc.

Will dropping to 16bit colour have an effect? I thought that since the gef3 the HSR hardware was only used in 32bit colour negating any performance increase offered at the lower colour?

Pretty sure M11 is based on RV360, but Anand's staff probably can't admit that. ATi should announce any day now.

Even at its best, the GeForce FX Go5650 was only able to close the gap between the Mobility Radeon 9600 to 234%. ?Slow as a pregnant yak? was a phase that we often heard in reference to these scores.
bahahahh :D
