I'm getting ready to purchase a Dell 8100 and was thinking about getting the 15" Ultra XGA TFT display with the 64Meg ATI Mobility Radeon 7500.

I've heard that on laptop screens, if you run at anything lower than the maximum resolution, the screen looks like crap.... fuzzy. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to use 1600 x 1200 all the time.... just too small for some stuff.

The Dell site won't allow the configuration of the 64MB Mobility Radeon 7500 without an UXGA. :frown:

One review I read on epinions.com claimed that "That's the good thing about the newer video chipsets, they use 'anti-aliasing' which means you can set the LCD to lower resolutions, keep it full-screen and not degrade the quality too much".

Anyone know if this is true?

The FAQ for the Radeon 7500 said that it does to anti-aliasing (FSAA)... whatever that means.

But... I couldn't find a FAQ page that was specific to the mobility 7500... although it probably has similar features.

Thanks!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with the specs you are talking about. I personally love the 1600 by 1200 resolution. You can go lower but text has a fuzzy look to it. When all else fails you can simply increase the font size..
