I am currently looking into buying a laptop. Mainly for school work but I would also like to be able to play some games... Now this is not going to be an FPS game type box I would mainly be playing MMORPS like Dark ages of camelot.

Now Ive messed around with laptops with the ATI Mobility (IGP320 in the case of the test) but what I want to know is this...

I see lots of laptops labled as ATI mobility are these all the IGP 320m chips.

And also are the ATI 9000, 9200 or gefore 4go 4400 equal or faster. Hoping for someone that might know.

Note all these I would be looking at would have 64 megs video ram.

The IGP3x0 series is horrible. I wouldn't wish that on even an AOLer.

IGP performance is about par with the original Radeon ... yes, the SDR or "Radeon 7000" model. Not only that, but they're buggy, have poor driver support, and horrid memory throughput and benchmark performance.

A laptop based on any of the later chips is fine. In order of the ones you posted, they'd be:

gFGo Ti4x00, R9200, R9000, gFGo MX 440 - and everything below there is really stretching it for recent games. MMORPGs are a lot more intensive on the CPU, but you'd hate to be playing along and suddenly drop to 5fps when a monster + crowd of players walks on the screen.
