ATI mobility drivers for linux

I purchased an Averatec 6100HS laptop which has a Radeon 9600 Mobility GPU. I have the laptop running Windows XP and Slackware 10. Everything is working great, however I cannot find a GPU driver for Linux. ATI's website says that they do not offer a driver, it's vendor specific.. meaning that I have to get the driver from Averatec. Unfortunately Averatec does not have a Linux driver. Does anyone have any idea if a driver for another laptop would work? I mean, it's the same GPU.. how much difference could there be in the drivers?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thats what I was afraid of. Dah well, not like I will be doing much gaming in Linux anyways.
