MY ATI card were always Quite .. well have HIS stock cooler which are very quiet.

They really should have done this with the R580 launch.

The stock cooler works but at 80'ish percent and higher, the fan noise really starts to get on one's nerves. In a normal environment, so long as the fan noise is 70% or lower, it's not a problem. Especially considering most people play games with either headphones, at night, or with speakers. Unless you're in a quiet scene in the game, most times the music and sound of action drowns out the fan noise.

I just think that the stock cooler was under designed and that with some tweaks they really could have quieted it down. Hopefully the next stock cooler is better as far as fan noise goes and if not, at least it's easier for the other guys to make some decent coolers.

Just wondering, how does the HIS cooler compare with the stock cooler (like temps, and noise?)

It's basically like an older model AC cooler, and if you have used one of them you have seemingly used them all :p

Yeah, I'm a power freak so I crank that sucker up to 95% while playing games just to squeeze out the last bit of perf. The only reason I do that though is because I cant hear it with gaming sounds, otherwise its pretty shrill and obnoxious.

You dont have to use it unless you overclock to the limits though really AFAIK
