ATI linux drivers

hey im running dual boot wxp with mandrake 9.1 and i have a radeon 9500 pro...

everything works fine except for 3d in linux, the card is so slow its a slideshow... so a couple months ago i decided to get ATI drivers but they didnt really work well or at all and someone recommended i tried the FireGL drivers... those didnt work either...

now that ATI officially has a driver set for mandrake 9.1 i tried installing it but it says i have a conflict with something else (xfree something or other) and it wont install.
im guessing its the older firegl drivers, but thats just a guess.

i have xfree 4.3 and i downloaded the right drivers from ATIs site...

can anyone offer any solutions? or should i just format my linux partition and start over? i havent really done anything important in linux other than play around so appart from the time hassle i wouldnt mind doin the latter...

peace! 🙂

How about posting the output so that we can see what the conflicts are, and maybe resolve them? Never force an RPM unless you understand exactly what the conflicts are and why you can ignore them.

ok i will post the exact error msg when i get home...

im pretty sure its the firegl drivers that i installed before and that never really worked properly.
