I've been using the samsung 22" 120hz monitor for a couple weeks now without problems. I'm using 10.3 drivers and all I did was set it to 120hz in CCC. I did not install the monitor drivers either so maybe that makes a difference. I haven't really screwed around with it a ton, but I'll try different resolutions tonight to see if 120hz works there as well.

I did the same... just set it to 120 in CCC and didnt use drivers...

2 Questions:

1) is ur 5870 overclocked?

2) can you try to use scaling on ur 2233rz display via CCC and see if it adds the black bars on left and right when ur at a 4:3 resolution like 1024x768 ?

These answers would really help me out alot...

My 5870 is at stock, I will check out the scaling when i get home. Also, I do get a small amount of flicker when I resize movies on the desktop, but since it only happens when I resize things it hasn't really been bothering me. I am going to try out the 10.5 drivers to see if it fixes the flicker, but it's very minor in my case. In games I have not experienced the vertical lines people are talking about though. So far i have played MW2, BC2, WoW, WAR, L4D2, GW, BS2 and some other games I can't remember. It really shines in games, I hooked back up the IPS panel in my sig because the washed out colors were kind of annoying me on the samsung but now I definitely notice how much smoother the 120hz panel was.

If you dont mind just trying to OC it like 5-10 Mhz on the core using ATi Overdrive and see if you get any issues..

I really want to upgrade to like a 5850, 5850 CF, or like 5770 CF but im worried about the compatibility issues... If i cant overclock or scale its not worth it to me anymore..

So I put back on my 120hz monitor today, and there was no jitter/shaking when snapping windows to the sides or anything. I tried OCing my card to 880/1250 and I started to get some jittering when I move windows around. I'll try installing the 10.5 betas now and see if that helps at all.

Well I forgot to look at scaling last night, but installing the 10.5 beta drivers did get rid of the flickering when OCing the card. I also played some games (MW2 and WoW) for a while with my card OCed and didn't get any flickering or vertical lines. So the 10.5's seem to fix the flickering problems, I'll try scaling tonight sometime.

ahh cool stuff... if the scaling works i may have just found a way to waste another 1100 bucks and thus stave off boredom and depression for another month with a new WC Loop/ Case Mod/ and GPU upgrade.

Well I tried scaling last night and that seemed to work fine as well. I was playing games all night with my card at 900/1250 and didn't have any problems with flickering or vertical lines so it looks like these 10.5 drivers have fixed most of the problems with 120hz.

Many Thanks for your input Vash, you have now made it clear to us all that Ati are working on the problem with the 120hz compatibility issues.

Hope it is totally rid of when the 10.5 drivers are made public. Just waiting on the Asus Ares to come out now, Dual 5870's on one PCB.

Bringing this thread back from the dead i was wondering if any of you had encountered a problem like this:-

Stuttering effect with Acer GD245HD monitor when in 120hz mode

I have a strange problem with my new 120hz monitor and i was wondering if anyone else has encountered it with any other make or the acer.

Basically when 120hz mode is selected a very small but perceptible "hitching" like effect can be observed every 2 seconds of so.It is most visable when using a strafe key in any shooter and say looking along a line of trees in crysis for instance. Now im well aware of all the so called micro stuttering issue that people have been talking about but here comes the real odd part.

Selecting 110hz also causes the hitch but its much less frequent i.e every 5 seconds or so.Selecting 100hz completly cures it but every 20 to 30 seconds an odd tearing effect happens that looks like the display updating or something. This last effect occurs even with v-sync on,although its not always noticeable and MUCH better than the hitching.

My system consists of 2x5870,win 7 64-bit,acer GD245HD monitor,i7-920 o/c to 3.78ghz and 6 meg of ram.ive tried catalyst version 10.2 to 10.5 with no change.Ive tried vsync on/off triple buffering on/off ,ive even tried putting 2 crossfire bridges on .

If i was to guess it seems like some sort of syncronisation problem that gets better the lower the hz go(60 hz is perfect). Its as if the montior or video cards cant display quick enough and thus a small delay is produced while either the video cards or monitor "catch up" so to speak.I know this sounds like nonsense but the effect is so perfectly timed (every 2 seconds) that i spent ages looking for some program that might be "polling" which usually accounts for hitching/stuttering effects, but i can rule that out cos if i lower the hz its fine .

Ive tried the usual suspect of disabling x-fire and yes im using the dual dvi lead that came with the monitor all to no avail .

Im gonna have to try it with my mates gtx 275 and see if the same happens,it will prove if its monitor/card related.
To any one else who would like to try and see if theres does it i would advise using a non analogue style of input to allow perfect fluid motion(no point using mouse)then get to a point in a game and use strafe while looking at a wall/line of trees, this is where it is at its most noticeable.

Oh and just to add it can be seen in windows also, grab a small window and do circle like movements with the mouse and clearly every 2 seconds a small stutter occurs, not devastatingly bad but once seen annoying as hell .Again, dropping to 100 hz gets rid of it.

Sorry for the long post ,but its been bugging me for a few weeks now and id really like to know if anyone else has witnessed it.

Yours

Dash
