Betas don't really count. ATi doesn't support them and if you have problems they don't care, you shouldn't really be using them anyway (yeah I know, but your 'supposed' to use the official ones). You can use betas if you want but ATi's betas always seem to need a bit of ironing out.

I bought an 8500 OEM for $190 at newegg. Immediatly I downloaded Powerstrip and OCed it to retail levels. So now I have a card that has never crashed or given me one single problem and is nearly as fast as a GF3 Ti500, for a helluva lot less! The 8500 just rocks!

I bought a visiontek geforce3 ti-200 for $99 at best buy. Immediatly I downloaded nVMaxand OCed it to past ti-500 speeds. So now I have a card that has never crashed or given me one single problem and is faster than a GF3 Ti500, for a helluva lot less! The ti-200 just rocks!

What's with the Powerstrip cult? It sucks. Do yourself a favor and get a full-fledged tweaker via Rage3D.

As for the driver thang. Well, I imagine that certifying drivers is a costly process whether done by MS or in-house when that abillity is granted. In any case, if it is rushed and causes more customer inquiries or uneeded downloads than usual then it will cost even more. Why even bother unless the improvements are overwhelmingly significant.

That said, me likey the 6011's on my Radeon DDR LE :)

Powerstrip was the first thing I tried. If it hadn't of allowed me to reach retail levels while remaining as stable as it is, I would of flashed it with the retail BIOS. I'm sure if I get bored in the future I'll flash it, or if I get really bored I'll pencil the voltages and squeeze more power out of the beast.

The newest betas are a preview of whats to come and they do show major improvement, I like my 8500 but if ATI dosent produce a driver that dosent need another fix then my next card will be a GF4
