Kyle has a review up also.

Although Anand has the 9500Pro running comparable to a ti4400, Kyle has it running different games and different senarios and shows it kicking the behind of a ti4600 also, and thats with a card running with only 64mb of ram!

the 9500 is kinda disapointing :( was hoping it would be somewhere in the geforce4 4400 line, not slower than the 4200.

but this review shows that ATI over did it when they released the 9700 pro, the non pro version is fast enough to bitch slap the geforce4 4600 :D

Yes, the 9500 Pro doesn't compete as well against the Ti4600 as I'd hoped. But, Anand isn't even using a final board nor final drivers, so my guess is ATi will eventually be able to hit their Ti4400 performance target. I'll need to wait to see final boards before making a decision, but I'd venture to guess that a R9500 PRO will be my next videocard.

I am disapointed in the 9500 especially, but the 9700 looks like my next card if it comes out and is significantly cheaper than the 9700Pro.

The 9700 (nonPro) looks like the best "value" at $100 off the MSRP of the Pro. I imagine we will be seeing "street" prices of just over $200 pretty soon after release (considering you can find the Pro version for just over $300 now).

Still beats the Ti4600 by a wide margin and all the features of the 9700Pro but with slower memory (and there's always O/C'ing).

My only concern is that the 9700 will not be "built by ATI".

Who cares? AT and HardOCP have proven that the 3rd party manufacturers are just as stable, fast, and in most cases overclockable as "ATI" cards. Afterall, 3rd party manufacturers have done great with NVIDIA cards.

That being said, I've got my eyes on the 9700 (non-pro).

ATI is going to the chip supply route like Nvidia.
ATI will only build AIW series or Firegl.

Hopefully we can get the 9700 for $99 after rebate at Best Buy as their Black Friday special :D

Here is HardOCP's preview of R9500. He too points out that the final retail version will be quite different from what ATi gave testers to look at. I have to wonder why ATi gave these things out in such early form. Anyway, I think he does more tests with FSAA and FA, and it clearly shows the 9500 pulling away from the Ti4600 once those functions are enabled.

i wonder how much faster the 9500pro will be with the full 128 MB of RAM? i was thinking that i would get the 9500pro, but i might end up getting the 9700 if they can be found for $250 or so soon after launch.

Here's a good paragraph from HardOCP's Preview of R9500:

The fact that our card only has 64MB of usable DDR RAM on it will mean that retail boards with 128MB standard can only perform better than the results we've shown you here today. Even with only 64MB of RAM though, I'm sure some of these results have impressed some of you out there. The anti-aliasing and anisotropic performance results show that the GeForce4 Ti4600 is quickly becoming the card not to buy for gaming. Keep in mind that money-wise, the 9500 and 9500 Pro are posistioned to take on the Ti4200 cards that are out there. While this card is targeting the Ti4200 market segment, the results we've seen here today show us the 9500s can really go up against the Ti 4600. Once you factor in the price at $199 MSRP and the features you get, you can easily see how it could go up against NVIDIA?s best at this point in time.

How is the 9500 disappointing??? Once FSAA and AF come into the picture, it beats the Ti4600!

Umm it doesn't beat the TI4600 in all benchmarks

It isn't a final card and it is (here) crippled by having it's memory cut in half. For well under $200, it will be a decent card that supports DX9 (unlike the Ti series of cards).

Correct, I have the Sapphire 9700 Pro, using ATi drivers, no problems.

I saw all the benchmarks

Though I may find it disappointing you may not

it is an opinion, and I still find it disappointing

I will have another look when the final version comes out

I was alittle shocked that the 9500 pro didnt dominate more. I think ATI should try to really push its price down further and allow for 128 meg frame buffer.
