Two things apparently happened when I moved. One is that I lost the cd key for my Power DVD, and the other is that I scratched my ATi install disk. So no DVD for Rob. Can I just write ATi for a new disk, or am I just going to have to go without? I reformatted last night, and realized all this too late. Any help is appreciated.

You can't download their DVD decoder from their site becuase it is licenced from CyberLink. However, you can just got to CyberLink's site and download their PowerDVD free trial wich will give you unlimited uce of their decoder.

well you can but it will attempt to validate your installation CD. btw i borrowed my neighbor's cd and it worked. thank god i built all my nieghbors' PCs. I'll use this ATi DVD program, till either it doesn't work, which it seems not to do sometimes. Then I'll go repurchase PDVD.

Thanks.

Yeah, ture it does let you download it, they just can't let you instal it without it being valdated by the CD as it isn't really theirs to give away.

You can get a replacement CD from ATi for $10.

Just have to call them.
You will need to CD number off your original, and the S/n off your VC.

building neighbor's computer not so good idea... they would bug and annoy you over small problem. 🙁 same goes for friends and family.

just use the computer you were on to post this message to go to http://www.ati.com then click on "software and drivers" and it's pretty straightforward from there. Then burn it onto a disk, put the disk into the machine in question and install away!

True, I did this once and the guy would bug me for everything, even software related things like virus, spyware, etc. He installed all junk he could and once a week something would happen.....I was spending more time with his machine than mine....

He had also an old P2 for his son and this machine became also my problem......

Same goes for father in law. On this case he blew an Enermax PSU by plugging it into a 220V outlet 🙁

On the other hand, building for them it a good opportunity to sell hardware you wanna dump. They normally are not oriented towards the best in market. Just be nice and tell them you used, it works perfectly and give them the original invoice in case they need warranty service.
