ATI HDTV tuner

Not at this time. I think the only that do so are the european models which won't help you here. Sorry. I am looking for the same thing.

You might run the signal through an A/V receiver and have it out to the HTPC and record from there but it won't be recording like from a menu.

This is the problem from what I understand.

Free terrestrial signals can be decoded by HDTV products like ATI and Hauppauge to give you 720p and 1080i resolutions. These signals are not encrypted and cable signals are encrypted. Since cable signals are encrypted you need to have a cable box which decrypts the signal. You then take your cable box and connect it to your HDTV using Component or some higher digital method. All of these HDTV products do not have such inputs available so you can?t just pass-through the signal. Also I don?t think the standard PCI slots can handle such signals. With PCIe I believe it can be done.

Yes, along with the MyHD MDP-130 and a (very) few others.

If you (OP) were wanting to get all your digital and HD cable channels with a computer tuner, you're going to be out of luck until ATI's OCUR (CableCard) device and Vista comes out (and even then it might not be available for purchase separately from an entire PC).

Current PC HDTV tuners at most support unencrypted QAM, so you will only get the digital cable channels that your provider does not encrypt. Generally this is limited to the HD locals, although some people have gotten lucky and found more.
