I have a sony 60"super wega xbr lcd tv
and i hooked my puter up using a x800xl with componet HD,
I am able to get a HD resolution for 1080i custom (1776 x 980 @ 30Hz)
but the dark colors flicker with the low 30Hz!!?!
I cannot change it to 60Hz anywhere only if i use native resolutions which will not fit the screen correctly.
I can use 720p custom (1184 x 656 @ 60Hz) fine but its only 720p
and gives me a smaller desktop space resulting in a smaller screen area for gamming!!
any one know how i can fix this by raising the Hz?

Are you using ATI Tray Tools?

I am using ati's control panel with the HD settings.
But it will not give the option of 60Hz
there is a option to force 60Hz but it defaults to a lower native resolution

I have read that interlaced resolutions report their refresh rate at half of their actual rate since it is displaying 60 fields per second which equates to 30 frames per second. If that is the case, then you have the right refresh rate, and the flickering may be from something else.

I have the same problem with my 42 inch Sony, 720p custom (1184 x 656 @ 60Hz) looks amazing and the 1080i (30hz) tooks terrible.

Is 60hz tied to the "p" for Progressive Scan? Could it be that "i" for Interlaced is limited to 30hz and we won't be able to get 60hz at a 1080 resolution unless our TVs can actually do 1080p?

Just talking out of my...

Oh yeah just remembered something... there is a 1080 HD Preset resolution available at 60hz, but it's labeled as 1080p which is why I made the above comments.

You know when you walk into somone's home/office and they have their CRT at 60Hz and it hurts you to even look in its general direction? That's kind of what the 1080i preset looks like with my x800xl and 42 Sony Grand Vega.

You do know that 1080i is widely considered inferior to 780p, right?

1080p on the other hand...

whats the exact resolution of the tv? its if lcd, its a fixed res and you should use that resolution @ 60hz. you may need powerstrip to do so.
