ATI GPU Scaling Problem.

I'm running an XFX 5850, along with a HannsG 28in Monitor. I know how to go into the CCC and and just the scaling to zero to get rid of the black framing when I first boot.

The problem I'm having is that it every time I boot, the black bars are still there. I go into CCC, and the GPU scaling is still set to zero. I have to dial up the counter and push it back to zero to remove the bars. Obviously this isn't a huge performance issue, but more of an annoyance every time I need to boot up. I'm using the 10.8 Catalyst drivers, and have uninstalled reinstalled a couple times, and also using a DVI > HDMI cable. I've tried messing around with profiles, but that didn't seem to change anything after a restart.

When I was running dual 4890s I had to do the GPU scaling, but the settings would be adjusted during the boot. Same with with the gtx470 I was running. This is my first 5000 series of cards.

Anyone else experience something like this? I tried doing a google search, but only came across how to remove the bars, not any problems with the settings not saving/registering.....So I take, this might not be a common problem.

Any help would be most appreciated.

You could [obvious]set your desktop to your monitors native res[/obvious]

Edit:sorry didn't mean to post this like that, hit post instead of preview.

Are you running your desktop at a different res to native?

Check scaling on monitor as well. Sounds like you are using non native res.

Thanks for the responses guys, went on vacation so I didn't have time to reply back.

I'm using the standard 1920x1080 resolution, which I assume is the native res of the monitor and the card.

Cards don't have a native res.

Your monitor's native res is 1920x1200. ;)

I have 2 Radeon video cards one for my monitor, one for my TV, both using HDMI. I have a problem like this when I turn my TV on. There is a black bar all around the TV screen. As soon as I bring up the CCC the black bar disappears and the picture fills the screen. I have to briefly run the CCC every time I turn the TV off and then on to get proper scaling. It is annoying.

This behavior only started after I upgraded to 10.8
Edit: I just installed 10.9 and I still have the same issue. I have been playing with this a bit this morning. it seams whatever scaling I set under scaling options in CCC, it does not remember it the next time the TV is turned off then back on. It just goes back to a default value. There must be a way around this, anybody?

I ran across this annoying problem too. Someone on the AMD Forums suggested a fix, and it worked for me. All you have to do is:

1) Set desired scaling.
2) Hit Apply.
3) Reboot immediately.

This should force the scaling setting "to stick".

If that does not work, try the 10.9a beta drivers/hotfix which claims to fix this problem.
