Hello people.

Many times a reader, first time poster. Folding@home is great, but i prefer aliens. Iv'e tried to get some info how to get GPU accelaration on seti@home but found none. passing my eyes on the stickies didn't reveal nothing. The Boinc manager itself showed little. Is there a way ? Or my petty 4800 x2(Oced 3ghz , 1.325vcore) is going to do all the crunching ?

I'm planning to upgrade, from a 4850 to a 4870 CF ( my old rig goes to my little bro ) so im just asking. According to boinc benchmarks im just doing 2797 FP MIPS and 6977 Int MIPS.

Thanks in advance for the advices.

Thanks Petrus for the info. I suspected it all along. Well, ill keep using it CPU only for now.

Although the value increases a bit, im not shifting from ATi on my next upgrade. Ati 4870 512 can be found for 155? a piece, ill o for it. At that price they can be of tremenduos value.

So I've got an Nvidia card that's capable of CUDA and have been wondering why I haven't seen any CUDA units being processed.

Then I finally read the FAQ:

Q) Does SETI@home run GPU and CPU versions simultaneously?
No.
If BOINC determines your CPU is capable of running the CUDA version, only the CUDA version of SETI@home will run. One copy will run on each GPU you have installed. If you want to keep your CPUs occupied at the same time, you can join another BOINC project. The BOINC developers expect the capability to run CPU and GPU jobs simultaneously for the same application will be added in the next couple months.

Hmm, isn't this FAQ outdated by now? I've not got a nvidia, but AFAIK you should get work for both CUDA & cpu...

... as long as you're not using an optimized application and your app_info.xml doesn't include the neccessary info to run CUDA that is...

You just may have hit the nail on the head there.
I am running optimized and have not added anything about CUDA into the app_info.xml file. Anyone got instructions or a link to instructions about how to do that?

Ok - over on the seti forum I've been told I need to also get an optimized CUDA version and change my app_info file...

Any help?

If you want to accelerate other projects than Folding@home, you would have to upgrade to some NVIDIA-GPU ...

Here is a link to the CUDA and Seti@home FAQ.
Yep, hence when my HD 4830 crunches it only runs F@H, hopefully the field will open up some day.

Good info Wiz :)

And good to see you too Rattle Dagger! :)

And yes, I see cuda units processing.
