ATI GPU Antitrust settlement.......checks arrived today.....

Well, quite a few months ago, we...my husband and I.....received some sort of notification that we were part of the ATI Antitrust ligitation, because my husband had purchased two video cards from ATI's website---years ago, as a matter of fact.

So, he fills out the proper online forms (had to take the "pay me what you think I deserve" option as we have no longer any records of what we bought, but I know one card was a 1950 Pro, but was a refurb'd one.....forget the second), and figures that'll be that.

So two checks arrive today and he opens them up on his way back in from the mailbox.

Figuring the checks would net us like $1.99 each, imagine his surprise when one was issued for $363.64 and the other was issued for $162.58.

Now we're on our way for the hour drive to the closest BoA branch (checks drawn on BoA out of Dekalb, GA)........hoping they're really real! ;)

Happy day for found money......and it's really strange in that neither card purchased cost what either check was issued for.

Ah... I bought a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro back in 2002/2003. Does that count?

why would you go to a BoA? Just deposit them in your checking account.

Too late to file, and apparently you had to purchase directly from ATI (eg: My 1950XTX bought from Dell wouldn't count, even though it was ATI branded [aka: BBA]).

yeah...

Some banks have returned-check fees. If they deposit it, find out it's fake, they pull the money from your account, charge YOU a returned check fee, and screw you over when you bounce 8000 other things in the process.

I think it appears that they want to make sure that it's real and doesn't bounce which would cost them money.

I doubt these are fake. An hour drive seems silly for a settlement check. These types of checks are often drawn on large escrow accounts or accounts setup to distribute large settlements. This type of thing is very common and it's highly unlikely that a boilerplate class action distribution is going to result in bad checks.

Yep, just got my $220.30 settlement check for my X800XT PE AGP refurb from the ATI store in 2005. It was a hot hot deal at the time, they were refurbs but looked to be brand new. I was shocked by the size, I just doublechecked the email from this spring and it said a minimum of 10% for the claim, possibly more depending on who filed claims. Apparently it was just us! Whoohoo!

The best part is I just filled out the claim form for the HDCP class action lawsuit also. Hopefully I get a Radeon 4650 out of this card too!

Heck the X800XT PE is still running in my wife's computer!

Congrats on receiving your money. I'm still wondering what happened to my money with the DRAM Antitrust Lawsuit from years back. I filled out the paperwork. Then filled out more paperwork when they sent it about a year after I filed the first set. THEN about 18 months ago I replied to an email they sent me. Still no money. :(

Well, the drive was only 28 miles one way, but about 35 min. given traffic.

The checks did indeed cash.....and I'm just overly cautious. I've never seen settlement checks from some inane class action lawsuit being this large. I've been "included" in a couple of others, but all that I've ever seen prior to this was like a nickel and a dime.

So, please pardon my wanting to make sure they were legit, despite all appearances. $526+ in a pair of checks? Would you have really believed it? And I just didn't want to get hit with my bank's new returned check fee of $45 per check. :)

Did stop by a branch of my bank and deposit most of the cash, though.

I usually don't bother with class action suits because all you ever get, if anything at all, is that check for $1.99 or perhaps a coupon for some future offer.

I was prepared for a 1.99 but got 230.31 for a 1900 XTX that I bought for @ 270.00.

Pretty much a freebie video card.
