I just put in my new radeon card today and was installing the software which included a DVD software player. I already have the latest PowerDVD player, but I decided to give ATI's program a try. Anyway the installation went smoothly until I restarted my computer. As windows was loading a system update status bar came up and asked for the windows 98 cd. So I get out my cd and to my dismay my dvd-rom would not spew out the cd inside (the ATI installation CD). I press it at least 50 times and I knew that if I reset the computer that things would get screwed up so I did the next worse thing; cancel the file update.
Anyways I popped in a DVD and the ATI player autostarted it. I get through the warnings and even into the title screen. But when I try to navigate or play the movie I get an illegal op error. This wasn't too bad b/c I still had powerdvd installed. So I open up PowerDVD and I get an illegal op as soon as I press the play button... No warning screen or anything. I uninstalled the ATI software and try the powerdvd and still no luck... I reinstall powerdvd and still no luck. Then I install the ATI software again and I still get the same errors. I think it all has to do with the files that didn't get copied in that update, but in any case everything I've tried so far hasn't worked and I don't know what I can do other than reinstall Windows 98... now that's the LAST thing I want to do, b/c that will take forever and I spent SO much time tweaking windows 98 the way I like it. Geez, someone help me out here!
