Well, sh*t, man. Have you even tried the ATI Web site or Google?! I downloaded the ATI DVD player many times from their own site (what a shocker!)

But ok, here are the Google search results for the unable ones.

P.S. I guess now you want to whip my shiny ass in Quake :D

Bad News.

All the downloads in ATI's driver pack come w/o the DVD player. I don't know why they did that, but the only way to get the drivers for everything included (including their dvd player pack) is from the driver CD.

LMFAO at VBBOY.

Why can't you download this? This looks like a dvd player from ATI. No?

Or you can download the ATI Multimedia Center for your video card. According to ATI:

ATI Multimedia Center version 8.1 includes the following features

* DVD Player
* TV Player with advanced PVR, TV-ON-DEMAND engine.
* File Player
* Video CD Player
* CD Audio Player
* Media Library
* Gemstar GUIDE Plus+ TV Listings (North America only)
* Teletext Decoder (Europe only)
* USB Remote Control
* 4 Skins (Classic, Modern, Tranquility, ZeroG)

I used the ATI DVD player. It is not user-friendly at all, and I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, try WinDVD and PowerDVD.

ATI's stuff also takes over all your file associations without asking.

The reason that im interested in the ATI DVD Player, is because in PowerDVD XP4, i cant enable Hardware Acceleration.

Perhaps that option is reserved for thos with a dedicated hardware decoder card, like Hollywood Magic..

Did you check for an update for PowerDVD?

They don't provide unrestricted downloads of the ATI DVD player because the player includes decryption software that is not free. ATI has to pay a royalty for every "new" copy of the decoder it distributes. By verifying that you have the ATI CD they can prove you already paid for the license and then they are not charged for it.

My 9700pro has built in hardware acceleration.
Without the PowerDVD patch, i could enable hardware acceleration, but i got a garbled screen in DVDs. And it detected my card as having hardware acceleration.
With the patch, i cant enable the hardware acceleration, and it wont detect my card as having hardware acceleration. But my DVDs play fine.

Let's clear something up...

1. ATI only post an UPDATE on their website. This update requires a previous version to work.

2. BoomAM doesn't have a previous version on CD. Neither do some other people seeking the ATI DVD Player.

3. There are alternatives but they either costly (PowerDVD, WinDVD) or not Suitable/ as good as the ATI DVD Player.

4. This leaves BoomAM and others (inc myself) frustrated.

I see one alternative solution....

Perhaps one kind spirited individual could upload their CD version so that BoomAM (and others) can download it and then DL & install the update

Let's play nice now. It seems to me that a lot of abuse was hurled at BoomAM for what was actually a straightforward & sensible question.

Perhaps that would be illegal

If I remember right you dont need to have a previous version of ati dvd player installed. It simply asks you for the # on your driver disc. Like someone said though, The ATI dvd software is terrible and I had trouble getting it to work. When it it did it didnt work right.....

You need the number on the CD AND the CD itself. You don't need a copy of the ATi player already installed, though.

The ATi player is fine, there's nothing wrong with it once you get past the funky look of the interface. I've never had a problem getting it to work on any of the dozens of systems I've built with ATi cards over the last 4 years.
But my DVDs play fine.
So what's the problem? A checkbox doesn't have an X in it? Whoop-dee-doo ;) ;)
